  Text Messages Cost $1,310 per Megabyte[->] 2008-07-01 15:47 chexy

chexy writes ""...AT&T is charging you twenty cents for 160 bytes of data. To illustrate how absurd that is, consider the following. If 160 bytes of data costs twenty cents then 1MB (1,048,576 bytes) of data would cost 131,072 cents, or $1,310.72...."
I'm sitting here trying to think how and why is this possible? Can anyone explain this to a simple minded individual like myself? Does this technology cause that much more load on a system to justify the cost?"

  Robinson Jeffers 2007-09-11 11:51

Journal by Jeremiah Cornelius on Tuesday September 11 2007, @11:51AM
Thanks to Vague Ascetic for tripping me up with Robinson Jeffers, this day.

"There is no reason for amazement: surely one always knew that cultures decay, and life's end is death" (The Purse-Seine, 1937)

"Long live freedom and damn the ideologies" (The Stars Go over the Lonely Ocean 1940)

"Corruption never has been compulsory; when the cities lie at the monster's feet there are left the mountains" (Shine, Perishing Republic, 1941)

I guess I have some reading ahead. And I also keep deferring poor Ezra Pound...
