Well, I for one, do NOT welcome our robotic bartender overlords.

I like a real human bartender. One that I get to know, that knows me....at bars I'm a regular at, I like to have them set my usual drink in front of me when I sit down. I like that since I'm a good tipper...I get pretty heavily poured drinks.

I don't want anyone counting my drinks either.

Florida DOT Cuts Yellow Light Delay Ignoring Federal Guidelines, Citations Soar 503

New submitter zlives writes in with news that Florida's DOT changed some language in their yellow light timing regulations, leading to a decrease in the yellow delay. Especially at lights with red light cameras. "From the article: 'Red light cameras generated more than $100 million in revenue last year in approximately 70 Florida communities, with 52.5 percent of the revenue going to the state. The rest is divided by cities, counties, and the camera companies. In 2013, the cameras are on pace to generate $120 million.' I wonder what the camera company cut is?" At least one area has promised to undo the reduction now that they have been caught.

My landlord gets tons of mail at my address. I have to collect them up and give them to him occasionally. I initially put that and he freaked out. I really like the place otherwise and would like him to renew the lease next year, so I comply. Ugh. //I think he's claiming residence on the place probably.

Why not make it easy on yourself, and just throw it all in the trash?

I wonder how long before the Congress Critters start calling for a ban on such technology as this? I mean, what use does a civilian have for such a weapon?

Actually, I'm saving for a .50 cal Barrett Arms rifle. There is already talk about them wanting to ban this weapon from US citizens, and I want to get mine before they try to enact that one.

If the laws of the land are too onerous, the correct solutions are either to change the laws or else go somewhere else.

That's what most companies do.

Why doesn't the US set corporate tax to near "0"....for all companies set up physically IN the US with over X number of employees in the states? I'd think we'd be attracting all sorts of businees to our shores. The lack of corp tax would offset to a great deal the higher salaries to be paid here.

Also, make those non-tax incentives to have to hire US citizens....

Well, past experience shows that what you indicate, is not a factor in getting a girl home (preferrably her house) and getting laid that night.

I'm not talking hammered, but I'm sure above the already low limit of 0.08%....

At that limit, it would be hard for even the most sober of people to tell I'd had that much to drink, I just don't show it.

So you have the foresight to ask a lawyer what to do if pulled over "after having a few," but not enough foresight to realize that driving "after having a few" is dangerous?

Hey, you have to get your car home so you can work the next day, eh?

And no, I'm not going to leave it there overnight so it can be damaged, stolen or broken into. Again, cab isn't going to cut it, I likely need to work next day. And if you're picking up a chick, you're not going to take her home in a cab or a bus, and hope to have any chance of getting laid are you?

Face is...driving after drinking is extremely common. YOu look at all those bars with all those parking lots filled with cars, and at closing time, how many cars do you see left there over night due to taking a cab or someone there staying sober to be 'designated driver'.

And no, the majority of people there leaving are NOT under the legal limit.

So, face it...driving after drinking is common, and the only way yould be able to really drop those rates, is to ban external establishments from serving alcohol. Try that and see how well that flies.

With that in mind...as a society we do allow this type of activity and it is sanctioned for the most part by society. Most everyone gets home just fine.

If a cop sees someone driving poorly, sure...stop them, but if someone is driving just fine, let them get home.

And trust me...the ONLY time I'm driving the speed limit or even bothering to keep track of what the speed is in that zone, is driving home from a bar. Its when I'm stone cold sober that I drive like a maniac.

Good Lord, are we going to let MADD start us back on the road to prohibition next???

But, more to the point the OP was making. Depends on the state you live in.

I asked a lawyer in my state what to do if pulled over after having a few. He said if you know you're at the limit, don't say a damned thing and put your hands out for the cuffs and go quietly. Refuse tests, don't do field sobriety test (that is NOTHING more than evidence gathering). At worst for first offense you'll get reckless driving and maybe suspended license of which you can get permits to drive to work for food, etc.

Tough yes, but better than a DWI on your record.

Like with anything dealing with the cops, first thing to do is shut up, and lawyer up.

But it's unpleasant and wastes a lot of time. If we were in a world where the price stuck to the windscreen was the price you paid and that was that, you could google the fair price and compare prices at several car lots without having to talk to a salesweasel. The haggling model means if I want to compare prices at several dealers it is a slow and highly unpleasant process.

Wait, don't you want to haggle?

:)

Well, if you're not used to doing it it might not be that pleasant, but you have to haggle for most of the better things in life.

I mean, you DO negotiate for your salary/bill rate for work don't you?

When you rent an apt/house, you do negotiate for the rent don't you?

It is a skill used around the world, but not as much in the US. I think that's actually a mistake. One needs to learn to try to haggle the best deal they can for themselves in any situation for the most part. It is a skill that should be learned.

Once learned, it is kinda fun too....I love it when I do it and feel I get a good deal.
