Apple Defeats RIAA and France In Same Day 311

gnat writes "The subheading of the CNN article says it all: 'Four largest record companies defeated in behind-the-scenes battle to charge different prices for songs; downloads still 99 cents'. This comes the same day as France backed down on the posturing over demanding iPod interoperability." From the France article: "Apple, which did not return repeated phone calls, and other DRM holders doing business in France, are likely elated. While the law must still be voted on, the alterations in the legislation signify willingness by some in the French government to honor the rights of companies that don't wish to share their technology with competitors. Senate debate on the bill begins Thursday."

Apple to Build Second Campus 94

Randy writes "Apple plans to expand dramatically in Cupertino by constructing a second major campus, one mile from Infinite Loop. Lamenting the fact that 'there aren't many apricot orchards left' upon which to build a new campus, Apple CEO Steve Jobs noted that Apple nevertheless managed to do the trick by purchasing several contiguous properties." From the article: "The maker of Macintosh computers and iPod digital music players will house 3,000 to 3,500 employees in the new campus, about 10 minutes away from its headquarters on Infinite Loop in Cupertino. Jobs estimated that it will take three to four years to design and build the new campus."

OSx86 Shutdown Rumors Explained 600

n.e.watson writes "The AP has run an article that addresses recent rumors on the internet about Apple Legal shutting down the OSx86 Project, with a statement from an OSx86 administrator. From the article: 'The OSx86 Project Web site stated Apple had served it with a notice on Thursday citing violations of the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and the site was reviewing all of its discussion forum postings as a result. The site has always aimed to adhere to copyright laws and is working with Apple to ensure no violations exist, according to a statement by the site administrator.'"
