Journal by btlzu2

i don't wanna come back here anymore. :) sentimentality and all that, but multiply is much cooler. i like the multimedia options.

i'll keep reading everyone here when i get a chance, but you probably won't see me round here that often!

hi! *waves* anyone want a multiply invite? (not that you need it to join, but if it'll help...)

oh man there are still people here. :(

  • What did you expect people do read during the day?
  • I don't think I'd take some of the technical conversations over the multiply. There are just too many other, somewhat smart, individuals here. If I wanted, I could post something to the firehose and hope that someone with a background and interest could help me. Plus, the front news is a nice distraction from work....combined with email.

  • At work, multiply is blocked. Otherwise, I'd spend more time over there.
    • Here it's not blocked, I just don't want the sys admin in the next office over to give me funny looks when he reviews internet usage.

Now we can discuss pineapple on pizza without you religious freaks telling us what we can and can't do. ;-)

The multimedia options are one of the big things that I dislike about Multiply. An ongoing example of Sturgeon's Law: 95% of everything is crap.

About your list of guitarists (since I can't reply there just now). Hopelessly parochial. Where's Segovia? Parkening? It's like a list of great whiskeys that only has bourbon in it.

    </vent> :-)
    • I ate a teriyaki pineapple pizza last month. It was my first foray into tropical fruits on pizza. I think it was a direct result of Smoochy Bear moving to multiply.
      • by johndiii (229824) *
At last, Slashdot is safe for tropical fruit pizza. Today, pineapple. Tomorrow, mango. Can papaya be far behind?

        Thanks, Rob!

yer welcome--glad to leave the kennel to lassie! :)

and what was the first thing i hit? "SLOW DOWN COWBOY"

          screw this place. :)

in the southern areas of the state where i live (ohio) they always offer "mangoes" as a topping at pizza places. the only problem is that when they say "mango" what they really mean is "green bell pepper." not sure how that one started, but so far it doesn't seem to have spread to the city.

Have you had apple crisp pizza yet? It's a dessert piece instead of main course - so there is no tomato sauce or cheese. But it has enough sugar to power a rug rat halfway to the the ceiling....
        • I love dessert pizzas! I've had a few apple crisp-type pizzas over the years, but never made one myself.

i love apple pizza! it's tasty. haven't had it in a couple years though...
    • About your list of guitarists

The only list of guitarists that was correct was mine. Plus, I linked to clips demonstrating why... for the non-multipliers, here is that list (sans links)
      1. Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne)
      2. Oz Fox (Stryper)
      3. George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob)
      4. Dave Murray / Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden)
      5. Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)

Of course, by "correct" you mean "from the narrow sub-genre of mindlessly ear-destroying 'music' that I prefer". Right? :-)
        • Aww, go listen to Josh Groban, you weenie. :D

/actually bought tickets to that concert

            You're a good son. :-)

Actually, I'm hooked on Cathie Ryan these days. Great voice, wonderful stage presence, and she plays a wicked bodhran. Sings in both English and Gaeilge, which is a plus as I'm trying to re-learn some of that language (I took a year in college).

One of the good things about seeing someone live, particularly in a venue where one can get very close, is that I can listen to the same song on CD and map some of the live performance onto that.

I enjoy metal, at times, and there are some very

If you want a really bad list, you need look no further than Rolling Stone [rollingstone.com]. Cobain at #12? Johnny Ramone at #16? And yet EVH way down at #70? It's just an utter joke, and I'm still amazed to this day that they had the nerve to publish such a heap of crap. Anyway, FWIW, my list would probably include (in no particular order):
        • Eddie Van Halen
        • Brian May
        • Joe Satriani
        • Dave Gilmour
        • Yngwie J. Malmsteen
        • Michael Schenker
        • Angus Young
        • Jeff Waters
        • Ritchie Blackmore
        • Steve Stevens
        • Vivian Campbell
        • Dave Murray
        • Adrian Smi
      • by ces (119879)
What, no Steve Vai? No Marty Friedman? No Yngwie Malmsteen? No Toni Iommi? No Slash? and those are just some other good/great Heavy Metal guitarists.

Once you broaden the list to all of Rock or all Genres you have people like Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Chuck Berry, etc. Not to mention huge legends like Andres Segovia, Django Reinhardt, Chet Atkins, T-Bone Walker, or B.B. King.
        • All of the above, except Slash (I don't care for his stuff) - but btlzu2's question was favorite 5 guitarists... I know I fudged a little with Murray / Smith from Maiden, but I can't seperate the two and Maiden rocks...

Ever hear of Gary Hoey? He's pretty incredible, too.

As amazing as Friedman is, I went with Mustaine - not so much for talent, but his ability to write a killer riff. I think the guy's better than even Iommi in that category.
          • by btlzu2 (99039) *
thank you railgunner. thank you tremendously. it is FIVE FAVORITE guitarists. There is no questioning that. Pick who ya wanna pick. :)

i did that, you did that, not many others got it. :)
            • by arb (452787)
Of course, some pointed out that it is damn near impossible to pick just FIVE and proceeded to list a representative sample of the many great guitarists who have graced this good earth. There are too many great guitarists in so many differing genres that the only realistic way of limiting yourself to just five would be to pick a single genre. ;^)

nuh-uh--not for me. i've gotten to see a LOT of cool stuff, like rare live srv performances, some great music, and some funny videos. i'm LOVIN' EVERY MINUTE OF IT JERRY! ;) you stodgy mean old man you!

erm, i'm not going to add segovia into a list of great rock guitarists. there's no way to compare them. :) the intent was rock even if not explicitly stated.
  • so there!

I'm going to keep right on posting here.

    THat's how it is.

You don't like it, don't read.

    I like it here.

By the way, i think you and our lady of the benevolent Mrs. Smoochiness need to move to this coast.

    NNNNOWWWWWWWW.

  • I'm still around, just mostly reading these days. I find myself rarely loading Slashdot articles, much less commenting on them thanks to Google Reader. Everything worthwhile (save Journals) gets posted to Digg anyway..

  • I have no real intention of moving anywhere, either (whether it be Multiply or somewhere else). I might step up my LJ usage a bit, but I'm in no great hurry to do that either.
    • I have also no intention on moving... I am on multiply, had fun setting up the layout of my page.... and then it was "ehm, what now?" What essentially happens is that I crosspost my journals to multiply.

The only thing is do "extra" these days is post a funny movie or so, but that doesn't happen all that much.

  • Has there been a mass exodus from the Slashdot JE circle to Multiply? I took a look and since they don't let you see much unless you join, I wasn't interested. The bit that I did see looked a lot like a MySpace clone. But I'm an open minded kind of guy, can someone tell me why I would be interested in Multiply and why they don't let you see much of anything unless you sign up? I like a lot of the JE circle folk and respect the lot, but I didn't really see anything that made me feel like Multiply is a de

hate to say it, but i never got the whole trolling thing. i'm more interested in as open and honest a discussion as is possible on the net. :)

      5) inline pix/videos
      6) no one whining about how much slashdot sucks

yeah, i think it's only you & johndiii that seem to hate it so.

i still say it's way faster than slashdot and it's doing a whole lot more.
