The old mobile site wasn't really mobile, so I guess anything is better, though it's a pretty slow and heavy site it seems. It looks to be working in Firefox for Android now, that's an improvement over the last time I used the beta.

So how long until /. wraps up the new mobile site in an app wrapper and advertises a "mobile app" for iPhone and Android like seemingly every other website out there?

I thought someone would eventually come through and get some sort of Netflix working on Linux, but Silverlight working right was not at the top of my list. I was expecting either a dedicated and optimized "player" for the Android app or a port of the the ChromeOS version.

Since you may be going cross platform at the host, either VMware or VirtualBox are good options. I've personally been using VirtualBox for a while and find it quite easy to use and being free is a nice perk too. Though I understand VMware Player(the free version of VMware) has grown in a a decent general purpose VM solution for simple desktop virtualization like it sounds like you'll be doing.

I've actually been thinking about getting rid of my laptop in favor of a Transformer and keyboard dock, and this makes it much more likely. Now the biggest hurdle is waiting for someone to come out with a 12" Android tablet with a keyboard dock.

The iPhone is still only 3G and their 3G network isn't going anywhere.

I wonder if this is just a bit too late. It seems that Samsung has surpassed Sony as the everywhere premium electronics brand Sony was in the 90's.

Not just poster and print ads, but in the US I've seen Chrome ads on prime time TV.

I think they're trying to wipe out the bottom of the budget market with that one.

Hopefully they'll at least have a dev mode. Unless something has changed, you have to root your device and manually enable sideloading on the Nook Color to test you apps, even if you are an accepted developer.

Can't say I really care for that at all. It's not 2003 any more. Modern devices have the horsepower to rerender pages if needed. I hope there's a way to turn that off. I really don't want Amazon mucking around with my web browsing.

Actually the Kindle Touch is $139 without ads(the same as the Nook Touch). It's their new low end $79 Kindle that is $109 without ads.

They're similar and in a couple years RHEL will resemble Fedora today, but by that point Fedora will be quite different too.
