gbjbaanb writes "IPv6 came a step closer yesterday as ICANN added IPv6 host records to the root DNS servers, reports the BBC. 'Paul Twomey, president of Icann which oversees the addressing system, told the BBC News website there was a need to start moving to IPv6. "There's pressure for people to make the conversion to IPv6," he said. "We're pushing this as a major issue." The reason for the urgency, he said, was because the unallocated addresses from the total of 4,294,967,296 possible with IPv4 was rapidly running out. "We're down to 14% of the unallocated addresses out of the whole pool for version 4," he said. Projections suggest that this unallocated pool will run out by 2011 at the latest.'"

On January 15th we asked you for tech-oriented questions we could send to the various presidential candidates, and you responded like mad. The candidates were the exact opposite: not a single one answered emails we sent to their "media inquiry" links or email addresses. Slashdot has more readers than all but a handful of major daily papers, so that's kind of strange. Maybe they figure our votes aren't worth much or that hardly any of us vote. In any case, the Ron Paul campaign finally responded, due to some string-pulling by a Slashdot reader who knows some of Ron Paul's Texas campaign people. Perhaps other Slashdot readers -- like you (hint hint) -- can pull a few strings with some of the other campaigns and get them to communicate with us. Use this email address, please. It came very close to happening, but luckily for Apple, Commodore rejected the idea, instead going with its revolutionary Commodore 64. Apple was one of the companies that approached influential Commodore to sell PCs, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said during an energetic panel discussion to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Commodore 64 PC, which took place at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View on Monday evening."

valiko75 writes "A recent report, under the title United States Climate Action Report, predicts a growth in the emission of greenhouse gases by 11% by 2012. The Greens will not be impressed of course, but the Bush administration says that this is a necessity, because there is more population and the economy has grown more; hence the necessary growth of emissions of harmful gases, which contribute to global warming (this 11% growth is in the U.S. and the warming is GLOBAL). Back in 2002 George W. Bush has set up a goal: to reduce these emission, so that they would be lower than the economy growth rate. This is what it is today. The question is "Why not try more to reduce these emissions?" The whole world is world is working on this topic, whereas Bush has spoken only recently for the first time about global warming, saying that this has became quite a challenge for all of us."
