IIPA threaten Indonesia due to Open-Source policy->

Submitted by
ariefwn
ariefwn writes "IIPA complained to the American government, that Indonesia should be punished for trying to move to Open Source software (Indonesian language translated to English via Google, sorry). IIPA is a US IP alliance which members are BSA, MPAA and RIAA. IIPA's move is due to the recent Indonesian government circular to urge all government institution to use open source software. IIPA's document states that 'Government Procurement Preference denies U.S. Software Companies a Level Playing Field'. There is an indication that Microsoft may have an influence to the situation. If all things go wrong based on this situation and Indonesia's export is to be affected, it will surely impact the recovering economy of Indonesia. Latest development by open source community in Indonesia is a move to try to submit a petition to US President Obama on his next visit to Jakarta planned on March 2010."

The British Library Launches the UK Web Archive->

Submitted by anjackson
anjackson writes "Today is the official launch of the UK Web Archive — providing access to archived and curated versions of UK web sites dating from 2004 onwards. Due to current UK law, the British Library can't archive everything (see the FAQ), so if you're involved in a UK-oriented web site you think ought to be preserved forever, you should get in touch and give them permission to crawl!"

Attackers Focusing On Capturing Personal Data->

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "Online criminals are garnering greater success with increased technical sophistication affecting a wider range of industries. With greater diversity and the use of targeted attacks, phishing remains one of the top threats on the Internet. While banks and credit unions continue to be the top targets of phishers, governments and the technology and energy industries are now seeing growing numbers of attacks. Cyber criminals are focusing their efforts on developing more sophisticated and targeted attacks rather than using a far reaching blanket approach, in order to reap greater financial rewards."

Microsoft secretly beheads notorious botnet-> 1

Submitted by Barence
Barence writes "Microsoft has quietly won court approval to deactivate 277 domain names that are being used to control a vast network of infected PCs. The notorious Waledac botnet is being used by Eastern European spammers to send 1.5 billion spam messages every day, and infect hundreds of thousands of machines with malware. In a suit filed in the US District Court of Eastern Virginia, Microsoft accused 27 unnamed defendants of violating federal computer crime laws. It further requested that domain registrar Verisign temporarily deactivate the domains, shutting down the control servers being used to send commands to the machines. The request was secretly approved by District Judge Leonie Brinkema, allowing the action to be taken covertly, preventing Waledac's operators from switching domains."

Comment: Same issue happen with my Nokia N81 (Score 1) 364

when it becomes so hot, it becomes difficult/painful to hold by bare hand. it happens usually whenever i'am using 3G connection with a lot of open connections (i.e. my eBuddy account), or whenever needs reconnection (i.e. browsing on the road with connection changes between GPRS, EDGE and 3G --and no i'm not driving--). whenever this happens, the battery drains like monkey pee. the only solution to save the battery (avoid recharging) is to turn off the handphone immediately.

the shitty thing due this issue is sometimes i forgot to logout from eBuddy from the phone... I just put it on my trouser pocket and heat sometimes burn my testicles... damn, my sperm...

Is Apple tracking iPhone user through IMEI?->

Submitted by
ariefwn
ariefwn writes ""As I sit here applying a new layer of Reynolds tin foil to my international hat of conspiracy, its been proven that Apple tracks iPhone usage and tracks IEMI numbers of all their iPhones worldwide. Hidden in the code of the "Stocks" and "Weather" widgets is a string that sends the IMEI of your phone to a specialized URL that Apple collects.". I wonder if there will be any implication also to owner of hacked iPhone..."
