So I tried jabberwacky.com after reading this article:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3116780.stm
and wasn't impressed:
Jabberwacky: When will intelligent life evolve?
User: The day after tomorrow.
Jabberwacky: Perhaps I should join you.
User: Join me where?
Jabberwacky: Where do I sign?
User: So much for your fabled ai.
Jabberwacky: That's really mean.
User: Thats 1 of 3 good answers so far. Go on, impress me.
Jabberwacky: Really!
User: 1 of 4.... You're slowing down.
Jabberwacky: Opportunity knocked, but you didn't answer. Pity.
User: Cute, but still irrelevant. Any more?
Jabberwacky: So, are you asking me to the opera?
On April 29th I posted one of my more controversial ramblings in response to gross generalisations by sohp (22984) and ackthpt (218170) attached to
this poll.
This post was called A few myths shattered and was more of knee jerk reaction than a reasoned argument, but some of the following comments (>35 to date) proved more interesting.
This is a summary of the arguments I posted, and some of the arguments put forward by other posters.
- People you consider 'stupid' for engaging in this hobby may well be smarter than you think.
- To write off an idea in this fashion makes you intolerant, superficial and ignorant.
- It is not an infringement of your civil liberties, neither is the most annoying nusciance on the road, by any stretch of the imagination.
- You may consider installing expensive audio equipment in a car a waste, but different installations will always suit different people and situations.
- While using a car stereo at a high volume may damage your own hearing it is unlikely to seriously affect others.
I will answer the most numerous criticisms here:
1. You are an arrogant prick for mentioning your IQ score.
No! It was a reply to post claiming that I and everyone like me had an IQ of around 70. This is just a sensible argument, not arrogance.
2. You are inconsiderate
Possibly. However I am not that inconsiderate, and realistically there are many more annoying problems to deal with on the roads. To squeal in this fashion makes you sound both petty and helpless.

If it bugs you that much do something about it, or else quit whining. Slashdot is not really a place for making your point to hords of modified car fans eh? Use slashdot for its purpose - discussion, debate, information, humour, etc. with an audience of nerds, not boy racers.
-- End Rant --
I can see the point the guy had about his neighbour filling the street with cars, but that's a neighbour issue.
3. What's wrong with it as it was?
Easy answer to this one, let me give you an example:
Q: What's wrong with buying a cheap Intel based PC from PC World, using Windows and never opening it up or installing any software.
A: Well nothing of course, but you're not really getting all you could from the experiance are you?
It is the same with your car. It will take you from A to B in exactly the same fashion as your computer will allow you to send an email to your grandchildren, and look at the news headlines.
There are also a great many more things you can do with it, and I would imagine that as a Slashdot reader, you would find at least some of those intriguing.
Think of it as 'overclocking' your car, installing your choice of OS, and making it your own personal space.
I might add some more to this as I have time and inspiration.
