What does colours or icons have to do with it? It's a newssite, content is what matters. If you don't care about that, here's a good alternative:

Soylentnews is quite good and often have interesting tech-related news before slashdot. It just needs more people in the comments.

What's your point?

A rather large portion of USA has better uses for their extremely limited funds - US poverty rate is among the worst in the developed world. But there are people with money and the bandwidth to watch the result, just like (almost) every other country in the world.

No. If you have a Palm and want to code for it, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that - and I find the reactions here very strange and un-slashdotlike. It doesn't matter if it's a good machine or not, or if you have fond childhood memories of it or not. If you happen to have something that can be explored and programmed, and you feel like doing it, great. How is reading a book or trying out some other hobby (as others suggested) in any way "better"?

No, it is not. I know it's difficult to get a grip on all the -isms, and there has been a lot of different interpretations since the late 19th century, but there Is No State in a communist society. The only examples of communist societies in modern times were, kind of, the Paris commune and possibly, again kind of, Soviet Russia during the civil war.

Chrusjtjov claimed that the Soviet Union would become communist some time in the (then) near future, he was obviously wrong. No Communist party in the world has communism in their party program except as a final goal sometime far in the future, when the state is no longer needed.

Isn't this joke getting a bit old? Sure, US education isn't exactly the best in the world, and it was fun to see Groundskeeper Willie and various US politicians show off their ignorance during the "weapons of mass destruction"- campaign 20 years ago. But far from all americans are this stupid, and it's a bit unfair to continue bashing them every time France is in the news.

Well, (for me) it's like an interesting talkshow. I watch Quickybaby play World of tanks, partly because I like that game and can learn a few things watching someone really good play it, but also because he talks about all kinds of things. It's just like watching kevinpollakschatshow, but framed around a game instead of Hollywood.

OTOH there's a lot of people on twitch playing the game and saying nothing, that I don't understand. Boring.

I agree, but unfortunately we live in this universe, and not that alternative one where everything is as it should be.

If people can't go somewhere (not too far away) and see animals, they will soon think CGI-versions of these creatures are good enough, which leads to extinction for the real ones. Unless they are really cute.

I haven't seen any reports about Europeans drinking less, but you're right. Since I stopped drinking 4-5 months ago I've gained around 10KG. I'll try to catch up in a few weeks when my girlfriend and our newborn daughter are going away for the weekend, but no matter how many bottles of ale I manage to drink, I doubt I'll get back in shape.

Because living in a "stone age" society is generally much healthier than living in a 1st world country. Also, more spare time - which isn't wasted on TV or the internet. (hunter-gatherer-people do not spend all their time looking for food, that's a common myth)

The downside is lack of medical treatment and vulnerability to external factors such as weather.

I wish you humans would leave me alone.
