Seems that for the past six months or so I have been under the misapprehension that people at my university can rent cars from the carpool for personal use.

Not that I ever did that myself. I have a car, I have a bus pass, I can walk most days.

But ... turns out one sub-clause in the 15 or so sub-clauses about the program says it's not for personal use.

Good thing I never used it ... I thought you could. Apparently you can't.

Ever had something like that - a memory of details that just happened to miss one critical exception - catch you up after you've been saying things about it for a long time?
