+ - India to Investigate Google for Anti-competitive Business Practices->

Submitted by hypnosec
hypnosec (2231454) writes "US, European nations and now India is behind Google’s alleged anti-competitive practices as it has been revealed by an Indian minister that the search engine giant is going to be probed by India's antitrust regulator. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) announced that it is going to launch inquiry into Google’s business practices having received a formal complaint from Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) International regarding some potential anticompetitive practices being adopted by Google in India. No further details were released in the statement though. In an August 2011 letter [PDF], CUTS had written to the CCI that “Google can potentially engage in anticompetitive activities to the possible detriment of these markets in India and that therefore such activities in this regard need to be thoroughly investigated by the CCI.” Such a probe was waiting to happen as CCI has received quite a few complaints against Google from different companies."

Really don't get what's the problem with the URL bar. I don't buy that reasoning that it's "confusing" for people to see an URL or that it eats up too much space. If they must follow through with this ridiculous idea hopefully they'll put in an option to keep it (nothing wrong with allowing customization) - or an addon for it will be made.

"The Metropolitan Police Extradition Unit confirmed at 10.30am London time (2030 AEDT) that the 39-year-old Australian had been arrested “by appointment” on a European Arrest Warrant an hour earlier." Seems that he turned himself in, so not sure the insurance file key would be released. Mind you his threat to do that if he was arrested (I don't think he specified for a particular reason) seemed a bit off.

+ - Wikileaks Vows Release '7x' Bigger Than Iraq Logs->

Submitted by CWmike
CWmike (1292728) writes "Wikileaks has promised to release a load of information seven times bigger than the Iraq War Logs, which raised the Internet group's profile around the world and caused some nations to take notice of the issue of leaks of top-secret documents online. In a note on Twitter, Wikileaks said, 'Next release is 7x the size of the Iraq War Logs. Intense pressure over it for months,' and asked supporters to continue donating to the cause. A District Court in Stockholm last Thursday decided to detain Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, 'on probable cause suspected of rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion.' Wikileaks did not say what the new release of information would be about."

Heroic Engineer Crashes Own Vehicle To Save a Life 486

scottbomb sends in this feel-good story of an engineer-hero, calling it "one of the coolest stories I've read in a long time." "A manager of Boeing's F22 fighter-jet program, Innes dodged the truck, then looked back to see that the driver was slumped over the wheel. He knew a busy intersection was just ahead, and he had to act fast. Without consulting the passengers in his minivan — 'there was no time to take a vote' — Innes kicked into engineer mode. 'Basic physics: If I could get in front of him and let him hit me, the delta difference in speed would just be a few miles an hour, and we could slow down together,' Innes explained."

A consultant is a person who borrows your watch, tells you what time it is, pockets the watch, and sends you a bill for it.
