Submission + - Apple Steps Up in Lodsys Lawsuits (blogspot.com)

TwiztidK writes: Nine days after Lodsys sued seven little app developers in the Eastern District of Texas, Apple filed a motion to intervene in the proceedings.

If the court grants Apple's motion to participate as an intervenor, Apple has already submitted its answer to the complaint, and its counterclaim.

Lodsys can oppose Apple's motion to intervene. That may happen, but I believe Apple is fairly likely to be admitted as an intervenor.

Submission + - Repair Program for Faulty Time Capsules

TwiztidK writes: Apple recently issued a support document outlining a repair/replacement program for those affected by the power issues on Time Capsules manufactured between February and June of 2008. The repair program will even take measures to preserve data on the hard drives by transfering it to new drives. Those who have already paid for a repair may contact Apple for a refund.

Submission + - iPhone 3GS goes down at Pwn2Own (zdnet.com)

TwiztidK writes: A pair of European researchers used the spotlight of the CanSecWest Pwn2Own hacking contest here to break into a fully patched iPhone and hijack the entire SMS database, including text messages that had already been deleted.

Using an exploit against a previously unknown vulnerability, the duo — Vincenzo Iozzo and Ralf Philipp Weinmann — lured the target iPhone to a rigged Web site and exfiltrated the SMS database in about 20 seconds.
