+ - What to do with spare, aging PC hardware?

Turzyx writes "I recently decided to clear out my spare PC parts box. After discarding the broken and virtually antique (worthless) components, I was left with enough bits to build a couple of dual core AMD systems with reasonable specs.
These parts have been doing nothing for nearly 2 years; I've upgraded family members PCs with the bits that I could, and the going rates on eBay aren't worth the time and effort to list and post them...
Given that I will likely have to justify the additional power consumption to my wife at some point, is there anything worthwhile I can use this hardware for? So far I've considered creating a net/file server (which falls at the first hurdle), or perhaps a media centre for the front room. Any advances on these?"
