Submission + - Smurfy Homebrew Shakedown (

RevEng2600 writes: An Amiga homebrewer that released a free Smurf homebrew has been hit with a C&D.

In a twist that sounds like it came straight from the MPAA/RIAA handboook, Studio Peyo's legal team wants the homebrewer to immediately fork over 2000 Euro, and they even include their bank deposit info in the notice.

Are the little blue guys that hard up for money? Is this a future model for C&D notices?

Darkfall Set For Launch 80

Darkfall, a PvP-oriented MMORPG that was first announced in 2001, is finally in the process of going live. After dealing with some launch-day bugs, the Darkfall team reports that servers are going up, and they're processing pre-orders to get players in the game. MMOCrunch has an in-depth write-up from the end of the beta, saying that the game is still "rough around the edges," but also that the team has created a "solid framework of an MMO that offers a unique experience that the genre has not seen in quite some time." Ten Ton Hammer had a similar reaction, tempering criticism with praise for the lack of hand-holding.

Thieves Take the Cake 91

Two very hungry German couriers ate a fruit cake destined for a German newspaper and in its place mailed a box of credit card data. The data including names, addresses and card transactions ended up at the Frankfurter Rundschau daily. The mix-up triggered an alarm, and police advised credit card customers with Landesbank Berlin to check their accounts for inconsistencies. Fruitcake must be different in Germany for people to want to use it as something other than a paperweight.
