Went to see the hand doc last Wednesday.
Q. What's the LAST thing you want to hear from your doctor and his colleague?
A. "Wow. We've never seen anything like this before."
Diagnosis - not a pulled tendon or ruptured tendon pulley, but a shredded tendon. Still attached at both ends, but now a collection of thin, weak strands instead of one strong cable. Bend finger - OK. Put any stress on bent finger (e.g. opening car door, picking up briefcase, etc.) - definitely not OK in any sense where "OK" means "no excruciating pain".
Course of action - immobilize left hand and wrist, to give tendon a chance to knit back together. Also, remove brace 3X a day for 5 exercises (15 reps each) designed to stretch the tendon to keep it from knitting badly or from atrophying.
These exercises hurt like bloody hell, and leave my arm so sore and weak that I am in a perpetually foul mood.
Another 10 days, and I go back to see what's next. Ouch GDMF ouch.
I hate having to type everything one handed, too. I've had to correct so many typos in this JE, that I'm going to stop now.

Hope it heals for you. That sounds just incredibly painful. And kinda crazy that you could shred your tendon through your own muscle usage!
