+ - Macs join the Army with ADmitMac for CAC->

Submitted by
Reverend Darkness
Reverend Darkness writes "Kinda hard to be considered counter-culture when you join the Army, but Macs are now allowed with ADmitMac for CAC. Thursby Software Systems has signed an Enterprise Agreement with the United States Army to provide licenses of its secure integration software for allowing Macs to take full advantage of Active Directory With Common Access Cards.

There is an implication that they are providing an Active Directory solution for the White House, as well."

+ - Global Warming Oppression Goes Both Ways-> 1

Submitted by
Reverend Darkness
Reverend Darkness writes "With all of the stories about climate change scientists being silenced by the Bush Administration comes an EPA investigation into a letter from the president of ACORE that threatens the career of a scientist who dares question the cause of climate change. From the article (in the Washington Times):

"It is my intention to destroy your career as a liar," Mr. Eckhart wrote. "If you produce one more editorial against climate change, I will launch a campaign against your professional integrity. I will call you a liar and charlatan to the Harvard community of which you and I are members. I will call you out as a man who has been bought by Corporate America. Go ahead, guy. Take me on."

... and it's not the first time he's made such threats."

+ - Are we the cause of global warming?

Submitted by
Reverend Darkness
Reverend Darkness writes "Are scientists wearing blinders (focusing on greenhouse gasses) when it comes to researching possible causes of global warming? Is global warming even happening as it is described by politicos and talking heads? Two articles (An experiment that hints we are wrong on climate change and Cosmic rays blamed for global warming ) ask questions and submit data contrary to Al Gore's accusations.

From the TimesOnline article:

"The small print explains "very likely" as meaning that the experts who made the judgment felt 90% sure about it. Older readers may recall a press conference at Harwell in 1958 when Sir John Cockcroft, Britain's top nuclear physicist, said he was 90% certain that his lads had achieved controlled nuclear fusion. It turned out that he was wrong. "

+ - U.S. Army says Mac OS is alternative to Windows XP

Submitted by
Reverend Darkness
Reverend Darkness writes "It seems that the boys at Cupertino are keeping the news that the U.S. Army has deemed the Mac OS worthy of "peer" status with Windows XP rather quiet.

The caveat?

They install a third party Active Directory client,ADmitMac for CAC, to make sure that they meet the minimum security requirements... requirements that Apple simply cannot meet."
