+ - Where does Java's Future Lie?

RatOot (1403949) writes "I'm considering taking a consultancy in East Africa to teach young programmers. However, the current language they are learning is Java. Given other languages such as C, C++, Python, C#, Ruby, etc, is Java really the most valuable language they could learn? What language would you teach, which language do you think has the best short term bang-for-buck and which one do you think has the best long term merits?"
