Submission + - Wikivoyage aka Wikitravel without ads has been launched (wikipedia.org)

Prokur writes: "Wikivoyage, an ads-free travel encyclopedia, is officially launched with forked content and rebel editors from Wikitravel.
The drama started back in 2006, when Internet Brands inc. has bought Wikitravel and stuffed it with Google Ads. Several key contributors were against such website monetization and decided to leave the "free" project some years later.
Internet Brands even tried to sue not paid editors, but the claims were dismissed by the United States District Court of Central California few months later.
Since now personal appeals by Jimmy Wales will appear on the header of Wikipedia even more often, as somebody has to pay for one more Wiki anyway"

Prokur writes: "A brand new Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 airliner on a demonstration flight with 37 passengers (mostly future clients and journalists) and 8 Russian crew members on board went missing after it took off from airport in Jakarta. After an extensive search, rescuers concluded, based on the widespread debris field on the side of a ridge, that the aircraft directly impacted the rocky side of Mount Salak and there was "no chance of survival.""

Submission + - Ask.Slashdot: Encrypting Local Network

An anonymous reader writes: Hello everyone,

I am going on a vacation to an Eastern European country for the summer. There is little availability of Internet in the countryside over there, and the set-up that we currently have there is over radio. My question is this: Can I encrypt my own traffic, i.e, by setting up a local socks/SSH server?
I know for a fact that the last time I visited, the owner of the company that handles the radio telecommunications, was spying evidently on my personal data!
