+ - Streaming Video from Mac to Linux?

Submitted by Neuroprophet
Neuroprophet (12311) writes "My old dual PIII Ubuntu system finally dropped dead over the weekend. This was the machine I used with an ATI captrue card to transcode and stream video to my Powerbook G4 and eeepc. I'm now planning on using my Powerbook to be the video capture machine in place of my old PIII. I've looked into capture solutions like Elgato's hybrid and 250 plus, but the software doesn't support real time streaming to Linux. I've also read that real-time solutions like Cytv can be hit or miss. I haven't heard about much success with Hauppauge or Pinnacle devices either. Anybody currently streaming real time television from a Mac to a Linux box? Are there any particular tuners and software you would recommend? I'm looking for a solution using only my two current machines and a new capture device if possible."
