I grew up in a small town called Burke, NY, and struck out for the wider-world in 1990 when I started attending Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, PA. (Those who attended between 1990-1994 may recall seeing someone wearing a black cloak in Wean Hall...most likely that was me...) After graduating, physics jobs were scarce, so I started playing with computers. A lot of my early learning experience was done with free software tools, and at some point I caught the FOSS bug. Since I started doing professional development, I've drifted from doing windows development work for internal projects, then for closed-source commercial offerings products, to now developing open source code [sourceforge.net] on Linux and getting paid to do it. :)
