Journal: Rob thinks he's a journalist.

Journal by MondoMor

In this post, Rob claims to be a Journalist.

I do believe that real journalists the world over, upon researching his "journalism-fu" (this entire site), will be insulted.

Funny how when he screws up or fails to fact check an article, he claims this site is "just a blog" or is "casual, informal, lighthearted, frivolous, chaotic, energetic", but then when some power-tripping nerd stiffs him he claims to be a journalist.

What a hypocrite.

Edit to add: He has such integrity that he doesn't want to "just phone in" his articles. Funny, that's how I'd describe his "editing" style.

And my post was posted at -1, received no upmods, but somehow still got hit with a "-1 Troll" mod. Nice coding, Rob.

Journal: Please explain trolltalk to me

Journal by MondoMor

Hello.

Recently I was given a post in trolltalk to meta-moderate. I'd run into that "discussion" before, but never bothered to ask anything about it.

So what the hell is it? Some weird story posted by Rob or something so that all trolls could have somewhere to be trolls?

Journal: Why Trolls Should Embrace the Meta-Mod System

Journal by MondoMor

This is a repost of an earlier Journal Entry. I'm a real believer in Meta-Mod abuse, so I'd like to keep reminding those of you who read my JEs to get on it. Those of you who are permanently labeled "Trolls" by editors should probably start a "slashdot-friendly" account, where you parrot the irrational and ignorant postings of the nearest Slashbot zealot, gain karma, and after a time be able to abuse the system to your heart's content.

I should point out that, AT NO TIME should your meta-mod-abuse account use any moderation points it earns to mod up any trolls, or mod down slashbots. You risk being blackballed, and wasting all that patient effort. If you wish to accrue and abuse mod points, know that the account will probably be found and rendered "Terrible" by one of the know-nothing "editors".

I know I've been making a lot of noise about how meta-mod can be used as a tool to increase the noise.

Here's a real-world example. This post came to me for meta-modding. The moderation I was assigned to meta-mod was the one UP-MODDING the post to "Interesting". Of course I marked it "fair", because whatever moderator sacrificed a mod point for that post deserves to be rewarded.

By meta-modding that moderation as "fair", I'm helping ensure that moderator gets mod points again.

Conversely (inversely? I can never remember), there was this post. My job was to meta-moderate one of the upmods given to it ("+1 Interesting"). *YAWN* That's surely not noise. Whatever moderator used a point to mod that up surely doesn't deserve to keep his moderation ability, so I mark it "UNFAIR".

I wish I had a better example of an "UNFAIR" moderation, but you can imagine a slashbot spouting some tired anti-Microsoft FUD. When these are modded up, I mark those moderations "UNFAIR" with extreme prejudice.

In this way I'm using Slashdot's own moderation system to reward trolls and punish... well... anyone who isn't a troll.

If more trolls were to (ab)use the meta-mod system, it'd be safer for them to abuse the MOD system, and hasten the inevitable Slashdot implosion. I get the opportunity to meta-mod twice a day. It takes a couple of minutes, and I get to do my part.

NOW GET META-MODDING!

Journal: Overdrawn at the karma bank

Journal by MondoMor

Whoops.

I fired off a number of comments this morning, and my karma's now "Bad". I can't wait to see the moderation totals, since one comment has been all over the spectrum with the mod points wasted on it.

Alas, with "bad" karma, I can't Meta-Mod.

If any of y'all have some points, could you send 'em my way, once the stories are low on the front page (and therefore "out of mind" of the slashbots)? I'd be very grateful.

Yours in trolling,

Journal: Yet more adventures in meta-mod! 2

Journal by MondoMor

I can't resist! This post, pertaining to the "Fyodor incident" got up-modded. I was given one of the up-mods in my latest meta-mod session.

By God, you can be sure I marked that sucker "Fair".

For more on Fyodor, read the journals of Real World Stuff and sllort . There's probably even more. CmdrTaco is deleting posts. He's a hypocritical ass.

For more on my endless talk of abusing the meta-mod system, see my previous journal entries.

Journal: For those (like me) abusing the meta-mod system 2

Journal by MondoMor

I've been faithfully meta-modding just about everything as "unfair" or "unfunny" (see my reasoning here) for a few months now.

But lately I've noticed more and more dissenting comments with upmods. I certainly do not want the guy who modded a "michael is a cunt" up to lose his moderation power, so I made sure to meta-mod this "fair".

So I've changed my policy on meta-mod. All comments modded negatively (Flamebait, Troll, Offtopic) get meta-modded as "unfair". Anything positively modded gets inspected. If it's a slashbot getting modded up for "LUNIX GUD, M$$$$ BAD! OMG", that's "unfair". A post ripping on Slashdot, the editorial staff, or insulting a slashbot will get meta-modded as "fair".

It's a little more work. Instead of Christmas-treeing the meta-mod form with blanket "unfair" clicks, I actually have to pay attention. But I like to think it's worth it. I'm hurting the ability of slashbots to reward each other for their thoughtless ignorance, and those with the guts to upmod trolls and dissidents get their moderation choices reinforced.

Fight the power, fellow trolls. Meta-mod whenever you get the chance. If you don't have a positive-karma account with meta-mod eligibility, GET ONE.

To borrow a style from slashbots: "Meta-mod is a Good Thing (tm)". OMG, LOL.

FUCK YOU, SLASHDOT.

Journal: Slashdot = BORK! BORK! BORK! 4

Journal by MondoMor

Oh, boy are things fucked up tonight. I keep getting the "Have you Meta-Moderated today" message, so I'm doing my duty.

I sure hope the five hundred or so mods I meta-modded as "unfair" tonight really stick. I like to think I've sufficiently affected the moderation pool, but likely there's billion that I won't see.

Ah, well. At least I did SOME damage.

FUCK YOU, Slashdot.

Journal: A wonderful week at Slashdot

Journal by MondoMor

I've been otherwise occupied and haven't posted or trolled lately. What with the war, actual work being done and family shite, lowering the signal-to-noise ratio on Slashdot is a pretty low priority.

I have been doing light surfing of Slashdot lately, and it does seem that the trolls have taken over.

The Slashdot to English Translator-matic is fantastic and I hope it gets crapflooded. That entire thread seems to be a disaster. This post nearby deserves kudos as well.

I'm so happy to see the ship continue to sink. Surely it's nearly time for another CmdrTaco hamfisted code hack to "enhance" (a.k.a. "break") some useful part of Slash?

Fuck you, Slashdot.

Journal: Slashdot is irresponsible 2

Journal by MondoMor

Everyone knows what is the slashdot effect, and is aware of the long history of damage it's caused.

Hell, some sites even block people referred by Slashdot as a means of self-protection. Mozilla.org is one of these.

So when some dipshit submits an article that links to a site on Mozilla, timothy posts it anyway.

Now, these "editors" claim to proofread articles before posting them. Surely timothy, had he bothered to click the link and engage his brain, would've seen the referrer block and done something about it, wouldn't he? He didn't, and hundreds of thousands of Lunix-worshipping mouthbreathers got to see an error message.

Eventually, timothy fired a couple of neurons and decided to check comments, and posted an alternative link presented therein. He couldn't be bothered to do this difficult, perilous task himself.

Why the hell can't (or won't) CmdrTaco and his 1337 kre\/\/ of Perl coders cache pages, at least for the first few hours of a story's life? They're fully aware (and often make jokes about) the Slashdot effect, and its potential to suck money out of the pockets of the very people they're trying to support.

They're either too lazy, too stupid or some combination of the two.

Fuck you, slashdot.
