"Sony has posted a massive net loss of $2.03 billion (£1.28 billion) during its third financial quarter, October to December. The figure is based on its total revenue of $23.37 billion (£14.7 billion), which is down 17.4% on the same period last year. This leaves Sony facing its fourth consecutive year of making a loss. The figures are even more troublesome when you realise that they contain sales from the normally lucrative Christmas period."Link to Original Source

"The father of the Playstation, Ken Kutaragi, is stepping down from the Sony gaming group, CNN reports. He will continue his ties to Sony in a consulting role. Kutaragi's latest product, the PS3, has met with a cool reception, could this be the first signs of a major shakeup at Sony's gaming group?"

"The Hubble Space Telescope is flying partly blind across the heavens, the result of a short circuit on Saturday in its most popular instrument, the Advanced Camera for Surveys. NASA engineers reported Monday that most of the camera's capabilities, including the ability to take the sort of deep cosmic postcards that have inspired the public and to track the mysterious dark energy splitting the universe to the ends of time, had probably been lost for good."

"A new lawsuit filed against Intel Corp. on behalf of Transmeta threatens to prevent the chipmaker from shipping microprocessors to PC manufacturers. According to InfoWorld, Transmeta is charging Intel with violating 10 of its patents covering processor design and power efficiency techniques. The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, seeks damages, royalty payments, and an injunction barring Intel from selling infringing products such as the Pentium III, Pentium 4, Pentium M, Core and Core 2 processors. Nine of the 10 Transmeta patents invoked in the lawsuit cover basic processor functions like scheduling and addressing instructions on the chip, according to InfoWorld. The tenth patent reportedly relates to Transmeta's LongRun technology, which is used to adjust the voltage of the processor, depending on its workload."

"Although the speculation about the iPhone dates backs many years, and has been discussed here before, it seems as though the rumours persist. Think Secret is reporting that the iPhone is due in early 2007 and that Apple has signed a deal with Cingular to be the sole carrier for the iPhone for the first six months. There is also speculation about foreign market carriers. The iPhone is said to feature a 2.2-inch display and 3 megapixel camera. The recent release of iTunes 7 also sparked a flurry of speculation when the code was found to contain references to synchronising mobile phones."

"The likelihood of Apple releasing a mobile phone/iPod device has been discussed by many, for many months. However, this week further information has surfaced. Industry speculators have postulated that the iPhone could be released withing the next 4-6 months. With the release of iTunes 7, we get further clues. The resources files have been examined and they state:
Some of the games in your iTunes library were not copied to the mobile phone [name] because you are not authorized to play them on this computer" and "iTunes cannot sync photos to the mobile phone [name] because your iPhoto Library needs updating. Open iPhoto to update your iPhoto Library
