Comment: Re:Taxi licenses are crazy expensive (Score 4, Insightful) 327 327

New Zealand liberalised its taxi system about 25+ years ago. The Gov't allowed anyone to setup a taxi company who had the appropriate car licence endorsement, log books and passed a vetting process for its drivers. etc.

Uber have shown up and decided that they do not have to have vetted drivers, log books etc. 'cos they are Uber!
The Police are investigating.

The barriers for entering the NZ market are quite low but even then Uber do not think they should apply to them.

Sure.
In NZ we still have Guy Fawkes on 5/11 however the sale of fireworks is restricted from 2nd - 5th November.
I do not think Australia have any fireworks anymore, something about the place being one giant tinderbox.

1 Denmark
2 New Zealand
3 Finland
7 Singapore
10 Canada
11 Australia
15 Japan
17 USA
55 Saudi Arabia
85 India
100 China

Perhaps racism is not the driver; perhaps the driver is a culture that facilitates corruption.

That makes the Mana Party about twice as popular as the ACT party at the last election and ACT have a seat.

Seen the policies from the far-right that ACT have had pushed through over the last three parliaments?

Would Mana be able to do the same thing when they were expressly excluded from a coalition by both major parties?

AFAIK they look at the rock to determine whether the apparent knapping of the rock (striking it with other rocks to make sharp flakes come off) is by natural processes or not.
The effects of geologic processes etc. differ from the effects of an ape-man with some hand-eye co-ordination.
