"They didn't invent the concept of the PC"

Oh quite the opposite. They did exactly that. The Apple ][ was the very first PC. What you think of a PC was scrambled together by IBM with leftovers in a hurry when they saw the wild success of the Apple ][. Apple ][ was released in 1977. 3 years before the IBM PC.

Olivetti beat Apple by 13 years with their Programma 101 in 1964.

", nor did they invent the GUI. "

They did indeed invent the modern, working GUI. The concept they bought from Xerox was not completely developed and lacked many key features. It was not really usable. The first usable GUI computer was indeed the Macintosh in 1984 when all others used CLI.

You're contradicting yourself here. The PARC user interface was invented by Xerox. All Apple did was innovate.

"Truth be told, Apple has never created a completely new and untested product from scratch and been successful with it. "

Wrong. Just plain wrong. Your bias and lack of knowledge is showing.

I hate to bring it to you, but he's right. Every single successful Apple product was an innovation of an already existing product, not an invention. If you're so sure, I'm sure you can name one Apple invention that has been successful.

"Also, marketing. They have really good marketing."

Their marketing budget is tiny compared to MS or Samsung.

He was talking quality, not quantity. It was a compliment.

Here's a citation:

Israel dismantled 18 settlements in the Sinai Peninsula in 1982, and all 21 in the Gaza Strip and 4 in the West Bank in 2005, but continues to both expand its settlements and settle new areas in the West Bank in spite of the Oslo Accords, which specified in article 31 that neither side would take any step that would change the status of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip pending the outcome of the permanent status negotiations. However, Israeli settlement expansion has continued unabated. The international community considers the settlements in occupied territory to be illegal. Israeli neighborhoods in East Jerusalem and communities in the Golan Heights, areas which have been annexed by Israel, are also considered settlements by the international community, which does not recognise Israel's annexations of these territories. The United Nations has repeatedly upheld the view that Israel's construction of settlements constitutes violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. The International Court of Justice also says these settlements are illegal, and no foreign government supports Israel's settlements.

It means the same here in Europe. It's just that we have stupid people too, who'll blindly copy other people's mistakes. If you do an image search for "korting", "Rabatt", "rabat", "soldes" or "réduction" (discount in various European languages), you'll see the vast majority doing it right.

You can buy Facebook likes, Google +1s or Twitter followers by the thousands, and this is probably what the campaign teams have been doing. I don't know how the sellers get their likes though. It could be a lot of fake accounts, it could be worms hidden in games or maybe Facebook itself selling likes.
