I've had trouble in the past with VIM regarding commented braces as part of the code structure in php files, making the % function fail. Is there a setting for this? Maybe it is just the php syntax highlighter that is broken, and the C/C++ and others work fine.
Or maybe it's just an old VIM I'm using...

You can block the application, just click "HIDE" then the drop down shows "hide (user)" and "hide (application". The second form the list is what you want. I use it all the time!
