Federal CIO Kundra Takes Leave of Absence After Woes 193

CWmike writes "The fallout from Thursday's arrests of a District of Columbia IT security official and contractor quickly raised questions about the fate of Vivek Kundra, the new federal CIO who until recently ran the office now mired in bribery allegations. Appointed by President Barack Obama as CIO less than two weeks ago, Kundra was CTO for the District of Columbia. But yesterday, Kundra's former office in a downtown government building was a crime scene. A White House official, speaking on background, confirmed today that Kundra took a leave of absence from his new CIO job shortly after federal investigators arrested two men in the DC government office on bribery charges. The official would not elaborate on the reasons for the leave; there were no indications yesterday that Kundra was involved in any wrongdoing. Kundra's decision could slow his plan to create a 'revolution' in the federal government's use of technology."

First Earth-Sized Exoplanet May Have Been Found 222

from the but-not-as-we-know-it dept.
Adam Korbitz writes "New Scientist is reporting the extrasolar planet MOA-2007-BLG-192Lb — whose discovery was announced just last summer — may actually be the first truly Earth-sized exoplanet to be identified. A new analysis suggests the planet weighs less than half the original estimate of 3.3 Earth masses; the new estimate pegs the planet's size at 1.4 Earth masses. The planet orbits a small red dwarf star, some 3,000 light-years from here, at an orbital distance of 0.62 astronomical units, about the same distance as Venus from our sun. One significance of the planet's discovery is that it points to the probable ubiquity of smaller terrestrial planets in somewhat Earth-like orbits around red dwarf stars, the oldest and most numerous stars in the galaxy. Here is a video report from the discoverers."

No wonder people think Americans are jackasses. By the time Europeans are waking up, Americans are just getting home from a night of drinking. Needless to say the resulting conversations aren't pretty.

Anyway... I have mod points! Post here and be modded up (mod points expire in 12 hours or so).

Perfection in a bottle. Could there be a greater beer? It's been on sale for three weeks now, $4.99 for a six pack. Good for me, bad for my grades.

I'd like to shake the hand of the genius that came up with that idea. I've never really had good tacos, but I tried making them last night... wow! I could probably eat 20 of em.

Ground beef, cheese, tomato, lettuce and some other stuff. Cook it or something then mix together and eat.

It's the MiTEG Food Plan ® - All Tacos, All The Time TM

Hm.. it seems I have mod points... come here for all your abusive moderating needs!

Definitely the strangest movie I've ever seen- The Doom Generation

I watch a lot of movies, so that's definitely saying something. The copy I saw was the unrated version, so I assume it was more graphic than the R-rated theatrical release. I'm still trying to decide whether I liked it or not (maybe I saw more than there really was?) But any movie that still has me thinking about it the next day can't be all bad.

There are 21,701 roses on the wallpaper of the north side of my kitchen.

And my kitchen has a sliding door! I've been living here for a year, why did I never notice that?

I feel kinda funny (strange-funny, not climbing-rope in-gym-class-funny).

I am a computer. I am dumber than any human and smarter than any administrator.
