No more Karma games- I just can't be bothered to care anymore.

I guess my shop steward was right

This is at least going to make some waves in Oregon Department of Administrative Services.

Turns out that firing somebody for Asperger's related behavior without first attempting to modify policy and/or work environment to help, is illegal under the ADA. There's point number 1 in my favor on my grievance.

  • Here's something to ponder as an aside.

Normal, comes from "norm" and "norm" means "average".

Why are so many people, hell bent on being "average" ?

I would think wanting to excel or win or overcome all odds would be ingrained into human nature, but given how hard so many try to be "normal" I guess perhaps that is why the world as we know it, is mired in mediocrity.

As much as we disagree on things, I wish you luck in your endeavor MH. As far as I'm concerned, I hope you clean out their budget for the next twe
    • Even as a trucker? This is the Department of Transportation we're talking about!

Personally, I'd be satisfied with a judgment that is 1/5th the cost than a freeway on-ramp. Such a judgment would mean I'd never have to worry about offending the higher ups ever again.
      • I retired from trucking (and pretty much all non voluntary work) a year ago. I'm living off income and investments and it isn't a problem at all.

Last time you and I talked I had just gotten off the road, mostly due to the abusive nature of the industry. Trucking is a fun "job" but the politics of it ruin the endeavor and its productive/rewarding nature.

The DOT deserves to go out of business... perhaps then, all those other ideas that didn't receive government blessings will take off again. You just want
        • You just want to have someone to work for, from the sounds of what you said, but frankly, I'd be happier still if you cleaned them out and retired to a mountain villa to ski with the kids whenever you're not teaching them engineering concepts :)

Actually, more likely I'd be picking up some property on US 26 and US 101 for the Oregon Project, with the property on US 26 being an Ambient Energy Farm, and the property on US 101 in Rockaway being a combination wave generator farm/server farm. I'd then hire the
          • Nice.

We see more eye to eye every day it would seem :)

Well, good to hear you're looking to profit by your actions.

            May they be profitable.
  • ...but the DVD accompanying his new release has a cool fan clip from a fellow who is an RC priest.
Satch has always had a strong thread of spirituality to his work.
    • I'm not surprised at all. I don't always agree with his theology (hell, whose theology DO I agree with? The RC is just a close match, not an exact one) but I do enjoy his music. I'll have to look into that- a little Satriani would do my mood a lot of good right now.
  • Nice. Does that mean you can sue, personally?
    • Possibly, if the union effort fails. But it also means that precedence for "making the employee whole" is reinstatement + double wages for time between the firing and the reinstatement.

Which means that basically, I'm on $100,000/year paid leave if my grievance goes to arbitration, but I must win the arbitration to collect.
