  We're not "resources"[->] 2008-07-24 09:35 MarkEst1973

Submitted by MarkEst1973 on Thursday July 24, @09:35AM
MarkEst1973 writes "Does George Steinbrenner schedule a "short stop resource" or does he get Derek Jeter? Do the Yankees want homerun hitting A-Rod or a mere "3rd baseman resource"? Did Apple do well when it had a "CEO resource" or did they achieve the incredible after Steve Jobs came back to lead the company? Talent matters! Treating highly intelligent software developers as "resources" is demeaning, dehumanizing, and ultimately counterproductive to an organization that needs to build and field a winning team. You can read the article on the original author's blog or the reprint at the JavaLobby. The article has produced a visceral reaction in people, judging by the comments on the blog and Dzone."

  Dump your database to turbocharge your web app?[->] 2008-04-22 11:06 MarkEst1973

MarkEst1973 writes "An article at Computerworld talks about boosting your web app's performance without incurring the hefty price tag for additional database servers by using JVM-clustering via Terracotta Server . There are several white papers published by TerracottaTech that talk about distributed caching, JVM clustering, and how the architecture works at a deep level. Legal disclaimer: I do not work for TerracottaTech, but I am a big, big fan of their technology. I used it to write a POJO message bus for a large integration project. InfoQ wrote a popular article about using Terracotta Server for POJO messaging."
