Mahy writes "As reported in SLI, Linden Labs has released the Second Life client under a version of the GPLv2. See their official announcement on their blog.
The "open source" community has lately received a lot of negative press in Second Life. DRM is something that most Second Life content creators want, especially after the recent high-publicity release of the CopyBot. At least one high-profile author has called on Linden Labs to close libsecondlife (a reverse-engineering group that was instrumental in the creation of the CopyBot). Linden Labs has taken a strong stand by releasing the client: Security must be in the servers, not in the client. But is that what the content creators want?"
