Submission + - Improve the reliability of your PC (grano.la)

MBAFK writes: Microsft Research has published a peer reviewed paper in which they present the first large-scale analysis of hardware failure rates on a million consumer PCs. The study covers desktops and laptops, CPU vendor, overclocking, underclocking, generic vs. brand name, and machine speed and age. Among their many results, they found that scaling CPU speed to match demand is more reliable than machines running at their rated speeds. Mat Grove from MiserWare shows how to take advantage of this to make your own PC more reliable.
