The glory has gone from IT long time in the company I work for (20,000+ staff). There is now too much incompetence. People that are lost..need to be re-educated, that live in the past unaware of today. IT has become sth unflexible, unreliable, unable to deliver. Sometimes I get the impression that IT almost keeps data from our company hostage. Keeps information hidden. What I've seen in other companies, wasn't much better. Too much data stored in proprietary formats, ready to create problems. I predict some rather painfull changes in the near future for a.o. the average IT department.

Well I always was a bit under the impression that all those user license agreements, copyright laws, etc. make everything so complex, that you will always breach a law and pay a fine. It has become a sort of value added tax, paid directly to 'the industry'. I could be wrong ofcourse :-/

Prosecuting file-sharers gives better revenue than selling music. No transportation/storage/etc.. overhead, Just some greedy lawyers to be paid.

Actually, initially I was under the impression he completely stopped contributing to the kernel, instead he just quit as TTY maintainer and fortunately didn't lose his constructive attitude in the LKML.

Yeah, I finally was able to read some of the other posts in the LKML Lots of fuzz about nothing.

First of all I am very greatful for everything he did. I know he contributed a lot. Hope the handover will be more than this emotional message: "Please talk to the new tty maintainer whoever that ends up. I no longer care."
