How to get LostCluster out of the hospital 1

Submitted by LostCluster
LostCluster writes "If you're reading this on Slashdot, you likely know who I am. I need some support from my fans. I need you to file a Chapter 123 Section 9b letter under Massachusetts law. You don't need to be a lawyer to do this, just any person. Ttell them what a great Slashdot contributor I am. This should help me get out of the Worcester State Hospital psychiatric program."

LostCluster: If they 8B me, there might not be me.

LostCluster writes "I hate to be posting a suicide note on Slashdot, but I absolutely will not comply with forced psychiatry forcing me into a life where I'm under the rule of MA's over-controlling and unconstitutional guardianship program. Suicide is looking like the best option for me... can anybody here help me live?"

Comcast drops neutrality, or is Level3 no peer?->

Submitted by LostCluster
LostCluster writes "Here's one that can go up for debate. Let's start with the typical coverage from CNET. Netflix hires Level3 to deliver its streaming movies, and now Comcast is sending them a bill. Now, that's a clear violation of net neutrality concepts... but on the other hand, if you push more traffic into a network than you get back, you don't qualify for peering agreements and have to buy your way into the network. Whose side are you on?"

Massachusetts Unemployment Goes Down... IT-wise->

Submitted by LostCluster
LostCluster writes "No, it's not good news on the job front, it's the state employees not doing theirs right. The Boston Globe reports a hardware failure made it impossible for anybody to correctly file for unemployment on Sunday, and the backlog of people trying on Monday has lead to script timeouts and other load-related fails. Can't the state hire a grid-based computing resource to handle the load? The state is compensating by extending the hours people can file for the rest of the week."

T-Mobile to offer free smartphones Saturday->

Submitted by
LostCluster
LostCluster writes "If you've got a family (or at least a family plan for cell phones) and are thinking of switching to T-Mobile, you might want to wait for Saturday (6/20/10) because The AP is reporting that they're set to offer free smartphones including their latest Google phones, the Garminphone, and others with 2-year commitment to a plan of at least two lines. Most of the time, such phones have a three-figure price tag to go with the commitment."

Earthlink announces it must honor Comcast Cap->

Submitted by LostCluster
LostCluster writes "For those in Comcast territory, a popular way to get around Comcast's 250 GB monthly cap was to sign up for EarthLink Powered by Comcast Service, where there was no cap. Forget about that... Earthlink just posted an FAQ explaining that Comcast will enforce the cap against Earthlink customers starting July 1."

When a site goes down, what should go up?

Submitted by LostCluster
LostCluster writes "I'm planning a database upgrade that's going to take down my website for a while. And, inspired by the Twitter "Fail Whale" I figured I should have something geeky/funny that should automatically go up whenever connection to the database fails. My question: What should this be? What should go up in place of a site to say it'll be back shortly?"

CES to be televised, barely... and streamed a lot!

Submitted by LostCluster
LostCluster writes "CES starts Thursday, but if you're looking for TV coverage of the new gadgets, you'll have to settle for just two hour-long episodes of AOTS, which is pathetic from what bought out TechTV. Much more video content will be coming from podcasters, including Leo Laporte taking most of his Twit.TV network, Kevin Rose's Revision3 teaming up with NBCU and streaming Tekzilla and other shows over all three days, CBS division CNET sending it's usual supply of bloggers and podcasts including Buzz Out Loud and Adan Curry's Mevio sending shows including GeekBrief and Cranky Geeks The consumer electonics revolution might not be televised, but it sure will be downloaded."
