Me, in a chatroom, on the 4th

Friday July 04, @04:23AM
United States

Fuckin' Canadian jackass was going on and on in a chat room about how Canada is great, and America sucks. Long time pal in the room and on IM. But I had enough. With this guy, lately, it was all "Happy Canada Day", "the US sucks" and "oh, what is the Fourth of July?"

I told him, "Well that was when we told the British to suck our balls, and you might appreciate that sentiment". Words came to words, he ended up called me a douche, I told him I'll stop being a douche when you stop being an a-hole... and after I quit, then came back ... I said:

...

"My dad served in Korea, as a Marine. I asked him if he ever killed anyone. He said 'I don't know'. That's war for you. You set up your guns, 200 meters away from where 'they' set up their guns, and spray and pray. He burned his uniform when he got home. That's war for you."

...

"They gave him a pistol and a POW and told him to take him over the hill and shoot him. He took the POW over the hill, told him to take a hike, and discharged his pistol into the air."

...

"The only reason my dad is alive is because he played in the band. The general wanted the national anthem every morning, and everyone else went to the front. Most did not come back.

...

"Yeah, our gubment sucks. But I never mistake my gubment for my country."

(closed window and immediately left)

Happy 4th of July.

Bloodbath for the daily papers

Their product sucks. So what do they do? Do they try to make it better? No. Invest in columnists people want to read? How silly of me; of course not. So what is their plan? To improve? Hahahaha.... no.

Their plan is to make their product suck even more by slashing staff. Yeah, that'll make it better. That will get people to want to pay for your stuff. Make your product suck more than it did before. Way to go.

Yes we can (smoke a bowl)!

I have not voted for a republicrat for any major office in decades. I'm not voting for or supporting either Obama or McCain. I find them both stomach-churning, in their own ways. You may have heard these quotes. I'm sure Limbaugh or the other right-wing pander monkeys are swarming all over it like cockroaches in a $300 walk up. I never heard these quotes until today; I don't take much mass media. I'm just quoting those lines because I found them amusing.

Quotes from "Dreams of my Father" by Obama:

"I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years. Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it." pg 93

"I kept playing basketball, attended classes sparingly, drank beer heavily, and tried drugs enthusiastically," pg 93

"I tried to change the subject, but Reggie was on a roll. "I'm telling you Regina, it was wild. When the maids showed up on monday morning, we were all still sitting in the hallway, looking like zombies. Bottles everywhere. Cigarette butts. Newspapers. That spot where Jimmy threw up...Reggie turned to me and started to laugh, spilling more beer on the rug. "You remember, don't you man? Shit was so bad those little old Mexican ladies started to cry. "Dios Mio" one of 'em says, and the other starts patting her on the back. Oh shit, we were crazy..." pg 109

"We smoked cigarettes and wore leather jackets. At night, in the dorms, we discussed neocolonialism, Franz Fanon, Eurocentrism and patriarchy. When we ground out our cigarettes in the hallway carpet or set our stereos so loud that the walls began to shake, we were resisting bourgeois society's stifling constraints. We weren't indifferent or careless or insecure. We were alienated." pg 101

"It was usually an effective tactic, another one of those tricks I had learned: People were satisfied as long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves. They were more than satisfied; they were relieved--such a pleasant surprise to find a well-mannered young black man who didn't seem angry all the time." pg 94

Credit to Dan Caplis for the cites, who is an insufferable Denver right-wing talk show asshat, but those quotes are +5 Insightful. Link to his diatribe for completeness.

History to be made today (2nd Amendment)

Monday June 23, @12:05AM
Christmas Cheer

Just a heads up for anyone who has not followed this case (the 'DC Gun Ban' case). Today, the Supremes will issue a decision on a case grounded almost totally on 2nd Amendment issues. That has not happened since, well, forever, pretty much.

I am like a kid on Christmas eve. I just cannot WAIT to open up the PDF's and see what is inside. You can be sure that they have spent extra time and effort writing their opinions. Expect page after page after page (after page) of them parsing a certain phrase which I would quote but I'll leave it to them. I am betting that there will be lines in their opinions which will be quoted for as long as people quote stuff and will become part of the fabric that makes America.

This is at the magnitude of a 'Miranda' decision. Or a 'Roe v Wade' it is that monumental. And like those decisions, it will have a large impact on the way Americans live their lives.

Hope they don't eff it up.

(edit: get your frosty pisses ready for when the decision comes down and Slashdot puts it on the main page. that thread will have well over a thousand comments if past history is any judge.)

Be afraid. Be very afraid

It's getting so that I can barely wake up without pissing myself for the fear of facing a new day.

But it is official. The Associated Press confirms it. I am not, after all, out of my mind. They couldn't print it if it wasn't true....

Everything seemingly is spinning out of control.

I'm afraid. Very afraid. When teh mainstream media confirms it, and not some "doom and gloom" site but the very Associated Press... well... ... is it too late to dig a fallout shelter? Can I hide under my desk? Won't someone hold my hand? Please?
