LNO writes "Judges and jurors deciding obscenity cases end up using local community standards — is the material presented obscene in a local context? In a current obscenity case in Florida, a defense attorney is claiming that the search terms used on Google by local community residents ("residents of Pensacola are more likely to use Google to search for terms like 'orgy' than for 'apple pie' or 'watermelon'") is an indicator that his client's pornographic web site does not violate community standards. This data is being pulled from Google Trends, and according to the defense attorney, "We tried to come up with comparison search terms that would embody typical American values," Mr. Walters said. "What is more American than apple pie?" But according to the search service, he said, "people are at least as interested in group sex and orgies as they are in apple pie.""
