He's doing really well - gaining lots of baby fat, getting strong and learning new skills all the time. I adore him.

His big sister (age 6) adores him, too. But my wife just melts when she sees him. I am really, really fortunate and grateful.

I am expecting the birth of a child today or tomorrow. This is amazingly cool. Sometimes I'm pessimistic about the way the world is going that I wonder if it's fair to bring someone new into it. I suppose relative to a caribou's life - born in spring, lose 1+quart of blood/week to mosquitos all summer, endure arctic winter, get eaten by wolves - humans have it, and will continue to have it, o.k. And maybe Baby will make things better. If not, will probably only make things incrementally worse.

Life really wants to be. And I really want to hold this baby.

Baby name == Squiggles. (working title)
