You argue that global warming exists, and then try to grandfather in a defense of man-made global warming by insisting that since a consensus of scientists believe that global warming exists, that it somehow magically follows that all scientists believe man causes the earth to get warmer, which is at the heart of the issue.

Yes, we can see the Earth is getting warmer, but it is evident from numerous pieces of cleverly discarded data that there is a cyclical warming period. The idea that human beings can take a billion year old chunk of rock and obliterate it by replacing lost carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is pseudoscience at best, ridiculous political theater at the worst.

All the while, climate scientists are being used as pawns by crazy environmentalists who have turned a ridiculous theory into a religion.

France Bans Amateur Videos of Violent Acts

Submitted by
narramissic
narramissic writes "On the 16th anniversary of the Rodney King beating, which was filmed by amateur videographer George Holliday, the French Constitutional Council has approved a law that criminalizes the filming or broadcasting of acts of violence by people other than professional journalists. The government has also proposed a certification system for Web sites, blog hosters, mobile-phone operators and Internet service providers, identifying them as government-approved sources of information if they adhere to certain rules."

Paul Allen Flips!

Submitted by
WED Fan
WED Fan writes "Paul Allen has a new hardware venture, smaller than a laptop, larger than a blackberry. According to the Seattle P-I, the vision is to replace the laptop for most everyday use, such as office applications, email, and web surfing.

"Really, FlipStart gives you everything that your laptop does," said Robin Budd, senior director with FlipStart Labs, a Seattle-based subsidiary of Allen's Vulcan Inc. "We're not promoting the idea that you would do CAD design on it, but for Office applications and most of what people do with their laptops, it's great."

But at a $2000 price tag, this could be a little bit out of the range of many users. The product will launch on the FlipStart in the not to distant future."

Chinese Astronaut Could Be On The Moon In 15 Years

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "Xinhua and Reuters are reporting that China will have the technical capability to put astronauts on the moon within 15 years. According to Huang Chunping, chief launch vehicle designer, a Chinese lunar landing will be achievable in that time frame if funding is available and preliminary projects go well. Huang says that China's current generation of Long March rockets are 'slightly' better than Europe's Ariane rockets, but trail the United States and Russia. China achieved its first human space flight in 2003. The United States had its first human space flight in 1961, and put the first astronauts on the moon about 8 years later, in 1969. The US is planning to return to the moon by 2020, 13 years from now."

The article states that the patch fixes a hole in the tamper protection mechanism. It also notes that Microsoft did not describe the update as a security fix, but rather, an 'operating system update.'"

Will the US have to conduct more nuclear tests?

Submitted by
Matthew Sparkes
Matthew Sparkes writes "The US has selected the design for a controversial new nuclear warhead to replace the Cold War era weapons currently deployed in its submarines. However, critics say the existing bombs are good enough, and that developing new warheads gives entirely the wrong message at a time when the US is trying to control nuclear proliferation. Questions also remain about whether or not the new warhead will require nuclear tests."

Microsoft attack Google over 'fair use'

Submitted by Theendisnigh
Theendisnigh writes "Quoted from the Guardian online: "Microsoft will today launch a blistering attack on Google, accusing the Silicon Valley giant of a "cavalier" attitude to copyright.
In a prepared speech to the American Association of Publishers, senior Microsoft lawyer Tom Rubin is expected to hit out at Google for profiting from other people's work.
"Companies that create no content of their own, and make money solely on the backs of other people's content, are raking in billions through advertising revenue and IPOs," he says."

National Shutdown Day

Submitted by bpedman
bpedman writes "I found this site and idea to be interesting. www.shutdownday.org invites all people that use a computer to shutdown for a complete 24 hours and not use a computer. Over thirty-thousand people have visited the site and committed to either shutdown for the day, March 24th, or not. I am as yet undecided, I do not know how long it has been since I have not powered on my computer or anothers for a full 24 hours. (Think of the electricity alone that would be saved in that one day if all computers were shutdown!)"
