Life Update

I'll keep this short, until there are more details. I just wanted to share, and I know at least some of you care. :)

    1) Baby on the way.
    2) Moving back "home". (home city, not home to live with mom)

    More to follow in the next 8.5 months.

        Ummm, I'll probably be going over on I-10, but...

        It looks like it'll just be me doing all the driving. Right now, she's getting car sick going more than a couple miles, so a 2500 mile drive is out of the question. Maybe I can swing by there on one of the trips.

        So far the plan is...

        I'm going to drive my car out there kinda quickly.
        She'll fly out to meet me, go house hunting, all the fun crap.

        • Ya, I have two sons of my own. I've kinda adopted other kids along the way. No, nothing legally, I've just tried to be a father to any kid I've been around long enough.

          We're considering bringing my other sons down to be with us, once we're in Florida. It means dealing with the evil ex-witch, which is usually a problem in itself. For some reason, every time I deal with her, I get nasty notes from the state for one reason or another. The last one was s

            • I'm tempted. I gotta figure out how.. Well, not how, like I know there are those road things between points A and B.

              I'm probably not going to be able to do it in my car, that'll be kind of a rush.

              I may do it in my bus, but it's only going to get about 7mpg.

              I'm working on a magic box that may improve that, but all optimism aside, we'll keep the 7mpg figure in mind.

              But, if I do come visit, is there somewhere to park a 40 foot bus at your house? :

                Well, if you do make the detour (start on 40, then it's only a small breakaway at Albuquerque instead of all the way up from 10), I could come down to Casa de KshG and we could do the meet there. You'd have to time it for a weekend, though. :)

                If not, I totally understand. I just like having visitors to the area. :)

                  It's a rough guess, since I haven't actually driven this bus any substantial distance, and I'm changing the gearing before I can hit the road, AND I've lightened the whole thing up by about a ton already.

                  Here's some fun figures for you. The bus weighs roughly 29,000 pounds the way it sits right now. It has a 6v92TA engine. That's a 6 cylinder 552 cubic inch turbocharged and supercharged diesel engine.

                      By the time I get there, I could probably use a shower though. I'm going to be putting some *REAL* basic equipment on the bus (110V power, air conditioners, and a couch). It won't even have a bathroom, since I really need to do that when it's conversion time.

                          Ya, I'm still with VW. Things moved, so there hasn't been anything in LA since the middle of last year, other than my lazy ass. :) I've been doing everything remotely.

                      Rent in the house I'm in is $3,000 per month. It's a $700,000 house (more or less). Here in LA, with the current market even though it's depressed a little, to get a nice house you're going to spend close to a million. You won't have land. You won't have privacy. And, you won't have fresh air. :)

    • By the way, having been in a similar situation, we just celebrated our daughter's 10th birthday last week. If you are freaking out, hang in there.

            I have two sons, 10 and 11, and she has one son, 11.

            In moving, we very likely will bring my boys to live with us. That should keep things interesting. :)

            But hey, for the difference in cost of living between Los Angeles and Florida, we could afford a couple full time nanny's. :)
