JSDopefish writes "Today, the granddaddy of PC shooters has it's birthday. Wolfenstein 3D's original 1.0 shareware edition was released today, back in 1992. If you're a /. reader, then you know the history of this game, so there's no need to rehash that in this story. :) You probably also played and/or bought this game.
3D Realms commemorated the occasion with a look back, a check on other Wolfenstein games, and the release of a few old historical documents surrounding the game. In addition, id Software is getting into the act by making the price of the iPhone version of Wolfenstein 3D $2 for a limited time. Check it out — you know you've wasted more than $2 on more useless iPhone apps than Wolf3D! ;)"

An anonymous reader writes "The Open Source Coffee Machine [video link] is a recycled coffee machine, controlled by a PC running Beremiz, and using some MicroMod CANopen I/O nodes from Peak-System. This machine have been prepared by Peak-System and Lolitech for SCS-Paris-08 exhibition. It served free coffee during four days at Peak-System's booth, and has been donated to IUT of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, France, so that students can have fun practicing automation."

Think what you wish.
One of the primary reasons this was done was an exercise for our programmers on 360 coding, how to interface with Live, etc, etc, etc. This was done on a "smaller" project so that kinks and issues can be worked out for the larger project (DNF).
If you want to chicken little the world, go ahead. Doesn't make it right.
