EverQuest II embeds Mozilla browser

An anonymous reader writes "EverQuest II's next release will include an embedding of the Mozilla browser. It's currently live on the test server and has a few issues that will hopefully be resolved before release.

Walmart downloads reject Firefox, Apple browsers

babooo404 writes "Last week, Walmart launched their online video download service. Immediately there were posts that the service did not work with the Firefox or Safari browsers. There was a collective, "WTF" when this happened as this is 2007, not 1997. Now it appears that reports are out that Walmart has COMPLETELY turned off the ability to get into the application at all by Firefox, Safari or any other browser it does not like.

Barack Obama's Internet Incursion

Petey_Alchemist writes "There's nothing new about interactive politics on the Internet. YouTube videos helped unseat George Allen in Virginia; Howard Dean's ill-fated run was predicated on Internet fundraising.

But Barack Obama (D-IL), who just announced his candidacy for President today, is going the next step. He first announced his exploratory commission in a video on his website, and soon after supporters made a Facebook group supporting him.

The Sun-Times says:

"The Obama campaign New Media Director is Joe Rospars, a veteran of Howard Dean's 2004 presidential campaign, which in its day was seen as an innovative leader in using the Internet as a critical campaign tool. At 11:25 p.m. on Thursday Rospars blogged on the site, "I'm writing now because we're making the final tweaks on the initial set of tools and functionality that will hopefully help a lot of people like you hit the ground running and start this campaign off with the culture of self-organizing that Senator Obama wants to build.," Rospars blogged ."

Indeed, Obama's website now boasts a built-in social networking site, where users can post pictures, blog, send messages, and organize meetups with other Barack supporters. This openness has been and will be abused, but it will be interesting to see how this new expansion into the Internet will play out."

Linksys Unveils New 'IPhone' Line

The phones use the increasingly popular Voice over Internet Protocol, better known as VoIP, and also allow users to switch over for traditional landline calling. They also can search the Web and allow users to see when friends are online and ready to accept calls. Several other companies have similar offerings. Howerver, the name has caused a stir: Cisco has owned the trademark on the name "iPhone" since 2000, when it acquired the company that originally registered the name, InfoGear Technology Corp. Speculation was that Apple would come out with one first. Much of the speculation about Apple's activity centers on an application the Cupertino-based company filed with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for a "portable computing device capable of wireless communications." The company has not discussed its plans, and declined Tuesday to comment on "rumors and speculation.""

Drinking Alcohol May Extend Your Life

Adolytsi writes "MSNBC has an interesting article on an Italian study on alcoholism. While the obvious notion of overconsumption of alcohol being detrimental to one's health is supported, apparently drinking it in moderation can actually extend your lifespan. A study on over 1 million drinkers and 94,000 deaths yielded the results:

"According to the data, drinking a moderate amount of alcohol — up to four drinks per day in men and two drinks per day in women — reduces the risk of death from any cause by roughly 18 percent, the team reports in the Archives of Internal Medicine. However, "things radically change" when consumption goes beyond these levels, study leader Dr. Augusto Di Castelnuovo, from Catholic University of Campobasso, said in a statement. Men who have more than four drinks per day and women who have more than two drinks per day not only lose the protection that alcohol affords, but they increase their risk of death, the data indicates.""

Doctor Who to be legally downloadable

Porsupah writes "It appears Azureus Inc. and BBC Worldwide have reached agreement on making Doctor Who, as well as a few other series including Red Dwarf, Fawlty Towers, and The League of Gentlemen, available as legal downloads on their recently announced Azureus 3.0-based Zudeo platform. There's no word yet on what episodes, pricing, or DRM."
