I'm English, but I was pleasantly surprised to find most of the 16-17 year olds giving well reasoned opinions on why they were voting Yes or No.

I spent a good part of last evening listening to BBC Scotland Radio 1, I was very impressed with how civilized and informed everyone was behaving.

But perhaps I'm comparing it with Quebec.

Not true, you can register with iCloud with another email address, however it will then automatically allocate an address for you, but you don't have to use it nor does it limit the functionality. (This is what I do...)

Having a STEM degree and no communication skills is limiting. Having communication skills and no tech background is limiting in another dimension.

This is why my daughter, bless her crazy little cotton socks, has been doing a double major of Liberal Arts and Civil Engineering. She completed the arts degree this spring and will finish her B.Eng. next fall.

My theory is they don't go into STEM because of asshats like you. When they do, they go into fields where asshats like you aren't welcome. For example, my workplace has a firm "no asshats" policy, and, guess what, lots of STEM women.

Exactly, I work in a similar environment and I'd say that on average the women actually out-perform the men.

From my 70 year old mother who still designs railways for a living: "Of course we're better, we had to be just to get through school and stay in the game."

I mean, face it, men are just more willing to be the trolls and make life miserable for each other.

WAT?! You ever see what happens when you get a group of women together?

Sheesh. Asking a slashdotter for his insights about women is like asking a Mormon about his favorite microbrews.

Clearly the irony of your own observations is lost on you.

Unity isn't the problem. The project management and developers are.

This is generally the case, tools do matter, but people matter much more.

Give a brilliant team a conference room and a supply of paper, pencils and food and they will turn the world on it's head. Give a team of idiots the best tools that money can buy and all you'll get is a steam pile of fertilizer.

(Give the brilliant team the best tools... though, even if it only makes them 1% more efficient it's still cheaper than the tools.)

You had a COMPLETELY different experience to me in Paris. I have been there 3-4 times now and love it and the places you can find tucked into small corners. There are restaurants everywhere and there was always someone nearby who would speak English to me if I needed help.

As for restaurants did you try walking from the Eiffel Tower to the Arc de Triomphe? There are a gazzilion on that strip alone. And Paris is the only city I can think of where you seriously need to check out the cemeteries. Particularly the catacombs.

That's more in line with my experience with Paris, the three days I spent there were nowhere near enough.

Some people have a great ambition: to build something that will last, at least until they've finished building it.
