Building a Scientific Library

While I realize the nature of scientific inquiry and the scientific process leaves many books obsolete after a few years, there have to be some texts that are considered indispensable. Specifically I'm looking for texts pertaining to mathematics (probably nothing more advanced than Hermitic functions and Hermitian spaces) and chemistry. How about it, Slashdot? What books would you use to stock such a library?"
