OiNK BitTorrent site raided, closed->

Submitted by
Gossi
Gossi writes "OiNK, one of the largest invitation only BitTorrent sites on the internet, has been raided by police in the UK and Amsterdam, reports the BBC. From the article — "A 24-year-old man from Middlesbrough was arrested on Tuesday morning. [..] At the same time his employer — a large multi-national company — and his father's home were also raided." Unsurprisingly, the site is now offline."

British police raid allofmp3.com voucher seller

Submitted by
Gossi
Gossi writes "The Register reports a 25-year-old man has been arrested under the Fraud Act. His crime? "Advertising and selling allofmp3.com vouchers through auction sites such as eBay and the website allofmp3vouchers.co.uk". Apparently the bust followed an investigation by global recording industry body IFPI and the BPI. What's interesting about the case is that it's now a criminal offence in the UK under Section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006 to sell music without authorisation, rather than it being a civil matter, and that law is being used to target sellers of vouchers."

First HD-DVD Disc Reviews - Mixed Marks 262

Posted by Zonk
from the welcome-to-the-party dept.
An anonymous reader writes "As the first HD-DVD players and discs hit store shelves nationwide today, the new site High-Def DVD Digest has posted extraordinarily detailed reviews of the HD-DVD disc releases of 'Serenity' and 'The Last Samurai,' with more reviews to come later today. The site gives both discs mixed marks, with the Tom Cruise flick edging out the Whedon-fest for demonstrating more pure high-def eye-candy appeal. Also worth a look-see: a detailed account of their 'review reference system' (ie: their gear)."

Let's organize this thing and take all the fun out of it.
