Eve Offline still-> 1

GoNINzo writes "The Icelandic company CCP, who run Eve Online, recently announced an Eve server move. However, it appears that things have not gone according to plan. The original DevBlog (google cached) stated that they would be down on June 23, 2010 at 0900 UTC, with web servers up at 1200 UTC, and the game online 3 hours of testing later at 1500 UTC. However, they apparently ran into database problems on bring up, so that 6 hours has now stretched into almost 30, and they are predicting another couple hours, assuming no problems. Eve Offline is reporting the game servers are online, but still not accepting player connetions. This is just after Eve Online broke another PCU record of 60,453 simultaneous users on Jun 6th during the recent tournament. As a sysadmin, I feel sorry for them, but as a player, I really hope we get the real story on what happened during that move besides 'database problems'."

A real time physics whiteboard

GoNINzo writes "MIT's Assist Sketch Understanding System is no ordinary whiteboard! It allows you sketch a real world example, just like you would on paper, but then you can animate it based on a series of rules you define, such as gravity turned on. So, you can design something easily, and then show it in action. There is a video of this project in action over at youtube, and the MIT page has an abbreviated version of the same video."

The only constant is change.
