Journal: Sorry, They're Married: "Two of the Most Glamorous Names..."

Journal by Jeremiah Cornelius

Two of the most glamorous names in global finance are linking up, with the Rothschild banking dynasty agreeing to buy a stake in the Rockefeller group's wealth and asset management business to get a long-sought foothold in the United States, Reuters reported.

Rothschild's London-listed RIT Capital Partners (RCP.L) said on Wednesday, May 30 it was buying the 37 percent stake from French group Societe Generale's (SOGN.PA) private banking arm for an undisclosed sum.

The transatlantic union brings together David Rockefeller, 96, and Jacob Rothschild, 76 - two family patriarchs whose personal relationship spans five decades.

Rockefeller & Co traces its origins back to 1882 when it was founded as one of the world's first family offices by John D. Rockefeller to manage his personal wealth.

Since then it has developed into a wealth advisory group administering assets of $34 billion. The Rothschild banking dynasty began when Mayer Amschel Rothschild started a business in Frankfurt in the late 18th century.

The family has worked on some epochal deals during its history, such as helping finance Britain's war against Napoleon in the 19th century and raising funds for a loan allowing the British government to buy the Suez canal.

RIT and another of the family's companies, Edmond de Rothschild Group, said earlier this year they would form a new joint venture to boost their fund management and investment operations.

SocGen, which has held the stake in the Rockefeller wealth and asset management operation since 2008, appointed a new head of private banking in March, replacing Daniel Truchi with Jean-Francois Mazaud as it moved to overhaul the business.

Banks across the world are shedding non-core assets to reduce their risks and strengthen their capital positions to meet tough regulations aimed at preventing a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis.

The deal is expected to close by the end of September.

Journal: Cap'n Time Crunch Part II

Journal by karniv0re

Man.

So, it's been almost two months since I've been slaving away on this project, working nights and weekends to get it close enough to call done.

Now I'm down to five days (including today which is almost over) until we go to production. Then we have a week to test and work out any major bugs and we're releasing to our customers. Crazy.

My deadline slipped by a week, but I can blame it on the other team because they have a critical component to release before I can do anything.

I should mention, I reached my previous goal of getting it done enough to demo to our customers in L.A. That was so fucking cool. I mean, the fact that I didn't think I could do it, and I did. Nailed
it, even. That's what needs to happen here with this actual release. It's gonna be a big fuckin' deal.

Now I'm just fighting fatigue and burnout. Seriously feeling overworked and underpaid. Thankfully, my dating life has been on the uptick, which has been nice and distracting from the day-in day-out
stress. I've been seeing this gorgeous girl who asked me out through Facebook. I'm so stoked about that, I almost want to buy stock in Facebook. loljk.

Anyway, back to my time crunch. Peace, bitches.

Journal: Al-Qaida Now Deploying "Facebook Terrorism" in Syria 2

Journal by Jeremiah Cornelius

A very real and disturbing new trend has taken off in conflict-ridden Syria, where rogue opposition groups, many of whom are already associated with the al-Qaida terrorist brand, are using Facebook to post the names, phone numbers and residential addresses of pro-Assad government supporters. At the end of these posts, the terrorists then leave a note of encouragement for other opposition members to "go and kill them".

Of course this is criminal.

"Material Support for Terrorism": Under the wording of US statutes, Facebook itself is a guilty party.

Journal: How to Change the World: "Barcode All Humans at Birth" 4

Journal by Jeremiah Cornelius

Papers Please Dept.:
Elizabeth Moon, author of an extensive corpus of Science Fiction, opines for the BBC: "If I were empress of the Universe I would insist on every individual having a unique ID permanently attached -- a barcode if you will; an implanted chip to provide an easy, fast inexpensive way to identify individuals. It would be imprinted on everyone at birth. Point the scanner at someone and there it is. ... In war soldiers could easily differentiate legitimate targets in a population from non combatants... Anonymity would be impossible as would mistaken identity making it easier to place responsibility accurately, not only in war but also in non-combat situations far from the war." Does it make sense to establish military and criminal accountability at the potential expense posed to privacy and liberty?
