iPad3 can only display 1.5 megapixel images in Safari-> 0

GhostX9 writes "Tom's Hardware just published their iPad 3 review and they show that when using Safari loading up any JPEG image results in a downscaled image. That 80 megapixel image from the Phase One IQ180 is brought down to a 1.25 megapixel image (1291 x 970) and even a 12 megapixel image from a Canon DSLR gets downsampled to 0.76 megapixels (1068 x 712), less than the resolution of the original iPad!"

Intel to overtake Qualcomm in 3 years-> 0

GhostX9 writes "Tom's Hardware has an editorial that claims Intel is going to overtake Qualcomm in mobile despite the fact that Qualcomm had >$4B in sales last quarter and Intel has zero shipping smartphones. This contradicts the predictions made by most analysts. To support their argument, Tom's Hardware brings in a high level of expertise. Instead of focusing on "company resources" they focus on "human talent." They discuss Qualcomm's gamble on Globalfoundaries gate-first high-k/metal gate process which put them at a disadvantage to other ARM manufacturers like NVIDIA and Apple and discuss Qualcomm's loss of several key members from the GPU team in Finland last year, something that no analyst or other journalist has ever been reported before."

The demonstration is impressive until you see this video response which replicates the experience with an iPhone and a pair of disposable forceps. The surgeon in the second video happens to be a gamer/journalist whose technology and computer security articles have been featured on Slashdot in the past."

If you read the patent instead of skimming it, they talk about how the processors can be integrated into a single integrated circuit. The trick behind patent lawsuits is to wait long enough so that the infringing companies owe you a lot of money, but not so long that you lose your ability to successfully win the lawsuit.

It doesn't apply to Foveon because the patent is about the way in which you take line skipped data from the CCD in a specific manner to maintain your Bayer-filter.

Kodak hasn't patented the idea of a video preview for a still camera. They patented the idea of taking limited information for the sensor (i.e. skipping pixels) in a specific way to provide a faster, low-quality video preview instead of previewing the data off the entire sensor. Additionally, they talk about taking the data off the sensor in a specific way so that the pixels still maintain the Bayer-filter. When Kodak sold off their OLED technology, I thought they were screwed. With this patent, they may actually have a case...
