+ - The Best Platform for a Budding Hacker

Submitted by
Gerzel
Gerzel writes "Looking over some recent reviews of the iPad and how it is a poor platform for experimentation as well as the growth of lock-out technology in most computer technology has me wondering what would be the ideal platform to inspire new hackers for the next generation?

Obviously price is one of the higher considerations as you have to get the item into the hands of young people for them to use it. Another highly important consideration would be durability as hacking involves making mistakes and it helps if mistakes don't destroy things. Then you have to make something that kids might WANT to use and they can work with.

Perhaps a sustained campaign to get Apple to change their ways would work best?
Or an Open Source solution?

What can the hacker/computer activist community come up with the encourage the next generation?"

Any program which runs right is obsolete.
