Bush Admits Administration Leaked Agent's Name->

Submitted by
InvisblePinkUnicorn
InvisblePinkUnicorn writes "Following the recent story that President Bush commuted Scooter Libby's sentence, Bush acknowledged publicly for the first time that someone in his administration likely leaked the name of the CIA operative: "I'm aware of the fact that perhaps somebody in the administration did disclose the name of that person," Bush said. "I've often thought about what would have happened if that person had come forth and said, 'I did it.' Would we have had this endless hours of investigation and a lot of money being spent on this matter? But, so, it's been a tough issue for a lot of people in the White House. It's run its course and now we're going to move on." MSNBC points out that the president 'had initially said he would fire anyone in his administration found to have publicly disclosed the identity of Valerie Plame.'"

64-bit Kernel mode only OS, No Wussies->

losethos
losethos writes "LoseThos is an open source, free, 64-bit operating system created absolutely from scratch with no restrictions (freer than GPL). It's designed to serve people who program for entertainment. It just supports a VGA display, keyboard, mouse, harddrive, CD-ROM and internal PC speaker. What more do you need for writing games? It's designed to serve as a supplemental operating system you duel boot to for this purpose. It's modern, however, supporting 64-bit (only) computing and multicore processors. It's like the old days when you could access all memory, use all instructions, access all ports, read all disk blocks. The memory space is identity mapped to physical memory so you can easily have processes interact. It has the most advanced command-line on the planet, seriously. Basically, as you type, it goes straight into a C/C++ compiler, with code outside functions executing immediately and the command line supports a variety of widgets including graphic, trees and file links."

Can a Hummer go Anywhere?

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "We've all heard about the AM General Hummer since it's debut in the 1980's, and we've all known of its usefulness as an offroad vehicle. We've seen TV commercials of these types of vehicles on mountain tops. Can they really do it? I've recently had the opportunity to ride in one of these in the mountain ranges in Moab, and the answer is clearly yes."

electronic cancer cure->

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "UC Berkley biomedical engineers have cured cancer in rats by electroporation. This 1960's era process was previously used by geneticist to open pores in cellular membranes to insert foreign DNA. Today, electroporation preferentially zaps open pores in cancer cells to drain them of life giving fluids. A short pulse of high voltage opens the pores. The key is to only affect cancerous cells, leaving healthy cells intact. The process is observed in realtime with impedance tomography. Where as X-ray tomography measures X-ray tranmission at angles about a target, impedance tomography measures electrical impedance from an array of electrodes around a tumor to compute an image. Impedance tomography provides immediate feedback on the effectiveness of the high voltage pulse electroporation treatment. The practicioner can distinguish dead cancer cells from live ones, knowing when to stop treatment. See more details."

Comment: ditch the inkjet and go for laser (Score 2, Informative) 119

i'll have to agree with others on this list. i used to run inkjets... epson, canon, lexmark... but they drink thsoe carts like crazy..AND if you dont use them in a while they become painful with nozzle cleaning etc etc. I got an HP 2600n a while back and though the initial outlay was higher, the printing is quicker cleaner and the running costs are lower. for really fancy printing (eg glossy 8x6 photos) i prefer to just head to local supermarket and use their 10p per picture printing service.
Wireless Networking

real wifi gadgets

Submitted by GURU Meditation 8000
GURU Meditation 8000 writes "okay, simple question. I've got a top-notch WPA2 enterprise secured wireless. Brilliant. My laptops connect with EAP-TTLS or PEAP. fortunately my smart-phone does EAP-TTLS and PEAP too...and my Nokia N770 is happy too.

But my Wii and PS3 only do WPA-PSK... my DS only does WEP and my dlink voip phone and kodak picture frame only do WPA-PSK. These devices are already legacy and not online via WiFi :-(

So, Slashdot, my question is what cool WiFi gadgets out there can handle proper secure wireless? Am I limited to laptops/PDAs and smart-phones? are there equivalent devices to the Helios X3000 media player? will streambox v4 do what I want?"
