bizwriter writes "In a stunning and painful decision for Samsung, Apple (AAPL) got a German court to issue a preliminary injunction against the Galaxy Tab. Zone .DE plagued by problems-> 4

Submitted by mseeger
mseeger writes "The zone .DE has been plagued by problems today. Four of six root servers were declaring any .DE domain as non-existent. Heise has some news about it and recommends to enter their IP into the hosts-file for the duration of the crisis. The .de zone is the second largest of the world, only beaten by .com."

Yes, we noticed that some people indeed missed that we are a company based in Germany. Sorry that you got the wrong impression.

We placed several additional reminders of this back in December, including one in the checkout process. You probably ordered before that. It is much clearer now.

By the way, we now also offer a airmail shipping option to the US which should go much faster. But unlike the groundmail option (to the US) we can't offer that one for free, unfortunately.

I also just notice that I made a little mistake in my last post. Although we are based in Freiburg, Germany, our warehouse is in Berlin, Germany, and all books are shipped from there. Not that it would matter in regard to delivery times, but I do not want to spread false information. :)

Hi,

Smashing Media Customer support here. :) First of all, thanks a lot for the extensive review!

Although it is true that some shipments have gotten into trouble on their long way from Freiburg into the whole world, I want to add that there is not a single user who never received his or her book. Although there have been some missing shipments, we made sure that everyone got their book in the end - just like this reviewer did. The worst that can happen is a delay if your shipment really gets into trouble.

I also want to add that the vast majority of shipments arrives smoothly without problems. We did have some issues during the release phase, which fell together with christmas time which caused postal delays all over the world. Bad timing. :( But as you can see from the current comments on our site, things go smoothly now.

Again: Thanks to everyone who supported us along the way! :)

Greetings,
    Florian

P.S.: Sorry for using my private Slashdot account, but I guess it still has more credibility than anonymous coward. :)

Germany just decided to implement data retention-> 3

G'Quann writes "Starting next year, all communication providers in Germany will have to store all connection data for six months. This includes not only phone calls but also IP-addresses and e-mail headers. There had been a lot of protest against the new law, but it was ignored by the government. This sucks...

Here's a short summary with links to more detailed (but German) sources."

Dave - The Interactive Music Video Installation->

Submitted by
Florian
Florian writes "Some time ago, we (Erik and Florian) created an interactive music video installation (probably the first one ever).

Detailed information, pictures and embedable videos are at the project webpage, but here's a short summary:

The recipient, surrounded by 11 displays, can alter the course of the video and music by interacting with three pillars. There is no visible or audible break during the interaction. The switches are seamless. With this installation, we tried to break the passiveness which has become so typical for the consumption of music videos.

The music video has been recorded in HDV. We used the visual programming toolkit vvvv to control interactivity and multi-screen-display.

We created the installation as part of our postgraduate studies at the Hochschule der Medien in Stuttgart, Germany."
