Trademark asserted against Hollywood sign painted on hockey helmet-> 2

Submitted by Froze
Froze writes "Breaking sports news for slashdotters: Jonathan Bernier, a goalie for the LA Kings hockey team, is being forced to remove Hollywood sign he had painted on his mask to celebrate LA's film industry. The Hollywood chamber of Comerce claims trademark and threatens NHL with legal action.

Clearly, if Bernier is forced to remove the Hollywood sign from his mask, there's only one sensible reaction: Creating a new mask that's a tribute to the illegal downloading of movies on the Internet.
How does one visualize a torrent?"

Supercomputers provide insight into Parkinson's->

Submitted by
Froze
Froze writes "Using Oak Ridge National Laboratories' Jaguar, the largest supercomputer in the US, researchers at North Carolina State University have figured out how copper induces structural changes in the protein implicated in Parkinson's disease. This finding provides important insight into Parkinson's onset and progression, and has implications for future treatment. The research is published in Nature's new open access journal Scientific Reports. ORNL has also posted a release about this as well.

PoE/PLC Laptops

Submitted by
Froze
Froze writes "If you had to be wired wouldn't it make sense to only have a single wire? While searching for that next bit of useful hardware I found this link claiming that DSP Design(I am not affiliated with them in any way) has produced the first Power over Ethernet (PoE) laptop. Much to my dismay, it turns out to be more of a flat panel, touch screen information terminal (PDF Spec Sheet). Are there any actual portables/laptops in development right now that take advantage of the PoE design? How about computers/laptops that use Power Line Communication (PLC)? Personally, I like PoE as it requires efficient power use but PLC doesn't necessarily rule out efficiency."

People tend to make rules for others and exceptions for themselves.
