FortKnox's Journal: Poll: Lady Guardian 46

Journal by FortKnox
Well, LG has left us for life, DDR/SSX/Diablo, and comedy.

The question is, will she return (this is a multipick poll, btw. Pick as many options as you like)?
A.) She never left! She can't get enough TL (especially now that he's not on the market)
B.) She has a troll account she likes to use and hasn't left.
C.) Give'r a week.
D.) Give'r a month or so.
E.) She'll return, just no time soon.
F.) She's done with Slashdot and Journals forever.
G.) LG, I caught you reading this. Now fess up! :-P
H.) This poll sucks! Damnit Em... wait... your making a poll and aren't named Em? WTF HAS THIS WORLD COME TO?!?!?
I.) I dunno, but if she ever does, I'm assaulting her with request to start up her webcam and see if I can git her nekkid!

This bears a striking similarity to fluffy grue's departure from K5... I've gotta say that this is permanent.

  • J) LG will win the Toronto mayor election as a write-in candidate and smite us all.;)
  • Almost all of the stuff she writes in her Journal here is also on her website, so in a way she's saving herself a lot of repetition.

And it's not like she's trashed the Journal, or done a 180-degree behaviour shift, like Sporty did earlier this year.

Anyway, she's got more important concerns, like her new day-job.

    MT.
    • Ya, what he said.
      • Ditto...

But more E than F... Simply for the fact that at slashdot you have guaranteed readership. On your own site, well, let's just say, you get less exposure.
For the moment she's sick of the exposure, but I think that will eventually wear off. She will be reorganizing her time due to the day-job and will find out that slashdot is stilld doable, you just have to be more selective on what journals your read and which you delete.

    • And it's not like she's trashed the Journal, or done a 180-degree behaviour shift, like Sporty did earlier this year.

Yeah, I miss sporty, he was funny. I gather he took a lot of things the wrong way and that made for some tough times. I know I didn't help when I didn't permit some trash talking he was doing on IRC, but I still miss him.

I don't think I'll find myself saying that in a few months about LG. She's gone, she wasn't as important as she saw herself. Boo-f'ing-whoo.

      Banky, however, now there'
      • Banky, however, now there's someone who I will keep reading his JEs offsite, but the community that remains here will be that much darker for knowing he is gone. He posts were great and will be missed.

Based on my experience of reading and participating in alt.callahans on Usenet, I would say that this is not a dark day, rather a part of the process that keeps the online world going - old faces go to other places or offline, new faces come in.

Many people who I befriended last year have either abandoned th
  • I think she is burned out on many, many things and I think her recent JE was a way to vent. Of course, I think burning one's bridge (even with virtual friends) and publicly ripping and a not-so-innocent (yes that is an innuendo!) bystander is complete bullshit.

I personally think she'll lurk about every now and then (but not post for quite some time). And maybe after her RL drama has subsided a bit, she'll return and let us all know that she is alive and well.

    Just my 2cents.
    • ...and publicly ripping and a not-so-innocent...

We only roast the one's we love. :)
    • Thanks, Jeff. I really appreciate it.

      ....Bethanie....
      • eh, she's too young, if I'm old enough to say it. It was naivity and simple ignorance in 'burning the bridges', so I just brushed it off as a youngin that got too mad at how real life really is (can't you remember your first steps on your own?).
        • I don't like to remember my first steps... I made MANY, MANY mistakes. However, I still have to call it as I see it.
          • Perhaps the 'rift in the FK circle' is between the married w/kids and the singles?

I'm kinda curious who the 'faux intelligentsia' are. I certainly hope nobody has confused my ramblings with anything other than the random thoughts of someone who likes beer and motorcycles (albeit not at the same time.)

(I really should be working on this firewall instead of screwing around here...)
        • And here I thought I was the only one with similar thoughts. I was also trying to reconcile thinking of someone in their 20's as a 'youngin'. Like someone said in Dayton's journal, having the kid catapults you from teenager to adult in a real frickin' hurry.
    • Honestly, ever since the whole "I'm taking the webcam down and its all your faults" journal, I've been itchin to write back and give her a piece of my mind, but chose not to (cause I wanted to be a bit bitter, but not too harsh). I've just been in too many conversations with younger people starting off on their own, and explaining how difficult life is. Yet she gets no compassion from us, because almost all of us have already been through the 'rough times' and made it through. Its something we all go thr
      • I'm pretty much with you on all counts, FK. I've refrained from posting anything for the same reason. I couldn't think of anything remotely nice to say about that arrogant, sanctimonious tantrum, so I didn't say anything -- until now, that is.
      • Not to belittle any of your points, but what about those of us that struggled through childhood, paid our own way through college to get our engineering degree and still get paid shit?

Now, just a point. I get paid shit cause I have a very specific geographical location I want to live in. I could get offered much more to move, but I'd rather live in Central/Western PA (can't give up my Steelers and Penguins).

As for LG, I didn't know here. Never really read her journals. I believe I was the one that ask
      • Thanks, J-man. That means a lot.

She can rip my efforts to shreds, 'cause it is all good. That's what freedom of speech is all about.

I would have prefered that she not be a punk and actually give some suggestions or offered to design the interface for FKSDFC #3 instead of just saying she can do it "better" (whatever that means). The view from the cheap seats is exactly that.

Oh yeah, I'll send you the stats Wednesday: top five hot or not, top 3 picks for each person... anything else you want? (Note to self -

      • I thought the final format of the Photo Contest was quite good, for something that nobody got paid for and was just supposed to be fun.

I also groove on just sitting and looking for all the subliminal faces in that background, man. It's like, totally far out.

        :-)

      • i think your complaints are fair, not low. i get the feeling it irritated her that we all tried to help her out. she just had her first real boyfriend. she just decided to go for comedy now rather than finishing school (after everyone here told her to finish school). i remember people telling me stuff at that age and thinking it was all nonsense. it was and it wasn't. everyone goes through that stage. what works for one may not work for another. but a little perspective goes a long way in being to h
  • but only because of wishful thinking...since I didn't really get to say goodbye (I was too busy to read JEs and didn't see her farewell address until after the final commentless "I'm gone" JE).

So if G is in fact the right answer, hi LG, and sorry you're leaving.

Unfortunately seems to be a classic case of just a couple of nimrods on the Internet screwing it all for everyone else.

    *sigh*

    Cheers,

If she was truly serious, I'd do a few things:

    1. De-fan everyone. If I then logged on I wouldn't see any messages and have the temptation of the zoo.

    2. Delete all of my journal entries. No reason to go back if you destroy all you've created. If there was a way to delete all comments, I'd do that too.

    3. Change the email address of my account to something I couldn't read.

    4. Generate an impossible to remember password in a text editor. Change the /. password to that. Delete the local document. Lo
    • Dude. In the words of crush in Finding Nemo, "Totally".

In normal speech, I think you hit the nail on the head, all across the board.

Can I have you as my tacticle advisor? My Sun Tzu? It isn't just that I need help; its that you are soooo devious.
      • Heh. Sure. Just wait at the river side long enough and you will see the corpse of your enemy float by.

The most twisted thing would be to do this to someone elses account.

Now that would be a great April Fool's prank for the /. editors to pull ;p
  • I don't remember which one is the couple three weeks option.

Too lazy to scroll button scroll button 1,2,3 back too.

Dunno. I think she did open herself up to a lot of the crap she's getting, but at the same time, did she deserve it? Nope.

Of course, she might think I am the biggest instigator...dunno. I did cause her to have the "Legendary" JE, if you remember.

  • For someone to go on /., post entries on how she loves her breasts, put up a web cam, put up photos and designs for her "animie inspired" outfits, and then act surprised that she gets a lot of attention from geeks, not focused on her mind.... Nope, not impressed. That said, if someone was stalking her IRL, or pestering via e-mail/chat, that's broken.

She burned a lot of bridges without any good reason, that I could see. The whole bash on the "FK circle" thing, the slam on the FREE, VOLUNTEER voting system f

    • Red Warrior hits the nail on the head! All points are valid and insightful.

The only point I would like to add is I appreciate the self-sacrifice that LG has made on behalf of the "Circle, man."
She has injected a charged issue into the "group", about the state of said group.
At the very least, this gives the group an "other" to rally against.

At the middle- this gives the group another chance to become an appreciation society and further strengthen (even if temporarily) the bonds between us,

      and at best
      • At the middle- this gives the group another chance to become an appreciation society and further strengthen (even if temporarily) the bonds between us,

and at best- simply calls attention to the status quo; to the "box". Allowing us now to possibly "think outside it" (wtf that means) and transcend what we have become out of habit.

Incredibly astute, mr. b. Which is part of why I've said elsewhere that I hope she's really gone and fed up instead of this being some psych test on group dynamics or some shit.

  • This is the great thing about /. - LG can do it all over again. She can create a new personality, and not do all the things she regrets about LG. She can create a new alias, and this time be more selective about the things she reveals. She can participate at whatever level she wishes, with as much anonymity as she prefers. Of course, this doesn't help with the stalkers who already know who she really is... that's an ugly thing, and I've been there (I think most geek-girls have). I don't know the situati

You folks are giving her just what she wanted--attention. There's nothing wrong with that, but at least get some perspective and stop taking her verbal assault personally.

She can leave without the noise, she didn't.

    Get real.
